I am in similar situation. I was at the N-400 interview last Monday (with pending I-751).

I told IO that my I-751 was pending, which he wasn't aware of.

So we first conducted N-400 interview, then he brought in my husband to conduct I-751 interview.

Still haven't received decision yet.

Hi everyone,

I recently went to my n-400 interview (last week) and the officer at the end told me it was approved. He did not mention anything about the I-751 (though I brought with me all the documentation needed and my husband also went with me prepared for the joint interview). The next day I received an e-letter for my oath scheduled in 3 weeks. I still have not received any update on my I-751. I checked online and the last update I received was when my case was transferred to another office back in May.

My lawyer is now saying USCIS made a mistake with my oath ceremony because they were supposed to approve the I-751 before approving my N-400. Has anyone experienced this? I am concerned of any more delays because I have 3 international travels scheduled in next two months, and the first one is 3 days after my scheduled oath ceremony. Because of this, my officer said I would have to apply for same-day new US passport after the oath in order to travel and get back into the country and would not be able to travel with my foreign passport and stamp from infopass any longer.

Here is an overview of my timeline for reference:

April 2017 - USCIS received I-751 application

Feb 2018 - I-751 Case was received at local office

March 2018 - USCIS received N-400 application

March 2018 - N-400 biometrics scheduled

May 2018 - I-751 transferred to another office

Late Aug 2018 - N-400 Interview scheduled

Early Oct 2018 - Attended N-400 Interview and approved

Late Oct 2018 - Oath ceremony scheduled

Call Tier 2 officer and see if you can get an answer from them, although, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you're lucky to schedule an infopass, I would try doing that.

On Friday, I have a scheduled Biometrics appointment in Norfolk, VA for my N-400. It seems like that on Friday, Hurricane Michael will hit Norfolk and their office might be close due to strong winds and flooding.

Can I go to another USCIS Field Office like Alexandria, VA on Friday and do a walk-in?

Thanks. Goodluck with your Interview too. I should probably move to San Bernardino as well.. lol.

I am going through a nightmare with the DMV as it is. My 751 is still pending and I applied for N400 in May 2018. All the DMV is doing is giving me temporary paper License for 3 months pending whenever I am done with this process. Even though I went in with my 551 stamp. Crazy!

Hi @Cocoza im in the same boat than you. I filled I-751 in April 2017 and N-400 in April 2018. Im still awating for interview date. Going to DMV every 3 months since january. =(

Did you get any update on your case since this last message ?

Thank you

For those of you who have had your joint interviews, did you receive a “Case was transferred to local office” notification separate to the one that was a glitch in February on your I-751? I have my N400 Interview in under 3 weeks but my case is still showing the message from March about being transferred that was a glitch.

Do you know if the officers can pull up our I-751 information in a computer or do they have to order in the file? Thanks.

No, the only file transfer status message we received was the late Feb glitch one.

Yes, our IO pulled up our i-751 info on a computer but he also had a paper file. Not sure if this is the case for every local office, though.

Did you get a 551 stamp? My DL does not expire till November 2018 and I have been going back and forth with the DMV. I was actually trying to switch to the REAL ID but the application has been pending for close to 2 months now. I called the Legal Presence Dept and was told that they do not verify 551 stamps, that I would have to wait till my application with USCIS is concluded. I went to the DMV in San Pedro last week and spoke to a Supervisor who seemed pretty knowledgeable with immigrations. She asked me to give her a few minutes and got on the phone with whoever she did. Then she got back to me saying that they had just released my DL and I should get it in about 2 - 3 weeks.

Did you apply for the REAL ID or the Non-Compliant one?

Hi Cocoza,

I Didnt get thw 551 stamp, because i received another extension letter for 18 months and my status does not expire till January 2019. My time line and my actions are really similar to yours. I applied for the REAL ID in January 2018, I have it pending since then visiting Torrance DMV every 3 months to get an extension. I called the legal department couple times, they always advised to await, but last time i went to DMV (10/05/2018) they advised me to call again asking for a decision, because the application for Real ID expires in 1 year (it will be january 2019). So DMW is in bad situation, because they are not approving Real ID for permanent residents, but they are not denying as well.

In this point, i dont care about Real ID anymore. I just dont want to go to that "lovely" place every 3 months. I will apply for commun DL and wait till i have my citizen to apply again for Real ID.

Has the 18 month extension letter not expired by now? The supervisor i spoke to at the DMV in San Pedro confirmed that i should be receiving the REAL ID in about 2 weeks, so i would confirm to you IF i actually do. I advise you to go in for a 551 stamp ASAP and also find out the status of your application(s) for N400 and I751 at the local Office at the same time. Then go to the DMV and request to speak to a supervisor. You could go to the DMV at San Pedro (DMV San Pedro is less than 5 miles from DMV Torrance) because the lady i spoke to seemed like she knew what she was doing.

You should get your N400 interview letter in a few weeks though. WORST case by this time next month, you should get it.

The 18 month extention letter is not expired. The letter gave me 18 months extention from the expiration date indicated on my GC (July/2017). So its good until January/2019. I really hope i have my interview and oath before January/2019. I like your idea to go to San Pedro to talk with the supervidor. It will be good to talk to somebody who knows the imigration process. Please keep me posted when you receive your Real ID. Crossed fingers to receive any update in both process. Thank you for the advise.

Thank you for sharing the info and congrats for passing the test. that does seems odd since I751 needs to be approved first before N400. you should schedule an infopass with local office to ensure there is no mistakes.

BTW, where did you interview at?

@asdfzc I interviewed at the Los Angeles field office. Update: they did make a mistake and are now cancelling my oath ceremony. The officer told my lawyer that they have put me in line to review my I-751 and schedule me for an interview since they recently enforced the interviews to be required for all applicants and conducted separately. They have given us no clue as to when that will actually be. This is a nightmare come true.
