I have been following this thread for a while now. Just want to do quick update. I am from the Los Angeles area, so the CSC is handling my case.

Last week on 9/27/18, I received an appointment letter for the N-400. The appointment for N-400 interview is for the first week of Nov. 2018

Waiting for them to approve my  I-751 was taking forever so I applied online for the N-400 on 2/15/18 when I was eligible.

This is probably a combined interview because they have not approved my I-751.

I applied for the I-751 on 2/15/17. I logged into the USCIS and check for the status of my N-400, I can view the appointment letter.

When I checked the status for the i-751 using the Receipt Number WAC it says:

Good luck everyone!

Case Was Transferred And A New Office Has Jurisdiction

Congrats!

Looks good, AC. That looks very similar to what we took to the interview. The IO only wanted to see the 2017 tax transcript which he scanned and put into the file.

Congrats on buying a house. We did the same in the summer of 2016. It really did solidify the relationship some. That and getting a dog 6 days later.

This is a very common issue that you'll see in almost all of the combined n400/i751 threads. Yes, your spouse should attend with you. Yes, it is very likely to be a combo interview. No, it is very common for the USCIS to mention nothing about the pending i751 application when sending the notice of n400 interview. Good luck.

Hello ,

I have my interview coming up for citizenship ( i751 pending too ) however I don’t see anywhere on the notice that it’s a combo , that my husband has to come . I will come but to make sure but does he has to come with me to attend the interview ??

I got a similar notice to yours for the N-400.  No mention of a combo interview or anything remotely suggesting that my husband should come.  We decided to err on the side of caution and have him come with me.  When my name was called, he didn't immediately follow me as he was chasing after my rambunctious toddler but the first thing the IO said to me was "Is your spouse here?  He needs to be here for the interview".

I brought originals of documents I'd sent with my I-751 application back in November 2016 and updates of said documents from December 2016 to August 2018.  I didn't want to risk getting a "decision cannot be made" cause of a document they wanted and I didn't bring with me to the interview.  Turned out to be a good thing because the IO asked to see the January 2018 - August 2018 bank statements and made copies of them.

My lawyer suggested to not do this and only bring updates of the documents submitted + any additional joint documents. Can anyone else shed additional light on their experience?

That's what we did. I never heard anything about bringing original documents. We posted a lot of stuff onto the online app and merely brought a few updated documents, specifically the latest tax transcript. When the IO asked for updated doc's that was all he really wanted.

When my wife went to her N-400 interview, we brought all the documents she had originally submitted (in case they lost a document),

as well as updated bills in both our names.  Turns out, all the officer wanted for the I-751 part of the interview was the newer bills.

Can I ask all of you that have been to your interviews how you organised the documents?

Did you have a folder that you provided the officer with everything including originals like birth certificates? Or did you have two folders - one with your originals (passport, greencard, birth cert) and the second with your evidence such as bills, mortgage etc. I’m trying to figure out how to organise my documents easily and the most efficient way of doing that. Did you also make copies of your original documents you brought.

Yes, I think the most important document is the 2017 tax transcript!  :joy:

Buying a house and getting a dog 6 days later!?  :wow:  You've been busy!

I'll bring my Jan-Sept, 18 bank statements then (since it's easy to print them out)!

I'm bringing my utility bill statement!

I have managed to put all my documents (N-400 and I-751 applications and updated supporting documents) in one folder (so far)!

I made a copy of my old joint bank statement in 2016 (which I sent with my I-751 application) so the IO can see the most recent bank statement in 2018 to see that we've had the same joint bank account for a while.  👍

Hi everyone,

I recently went to my n-400 interview (last week) and the officer at the end told me it was approved. He did not mention anything about the I-751 (though I brought with me all the documentation needed and my husband also went with me prepared for the joint interview). The next day I received an e-letter for my oath scheduled in 3 weeks. I still have not received any update on my I-751. I checked online and the last update I received was when my case was transferred to another office back in May.

My lawyer is now saying USCIS made a mistake with my oath ceremony because they were supposed to approve the I-751 before approving my N-400. Has anyone experienced this? I am concerned of any more delays because I have 3 international travels scheduled in next two months, and the first one is 3 days after my scheduled oath ceremony. Because of this, my officer said I would have to apply for same-day new US passport after the oath in order to travel and get back into the country and would not be able to travel with my foreign passport and stamp from infopass any longer.

Here is an overview of my timeline for reference:

April 2017 - USCIS received I-751 application

Feb 2018 - I-751 Case was received at local office

March 2018 - USCIS received N-400 application

March 2018 - N-400 biometrics scheduled

May 2018 - I-751 transferred to another office

Late Aug 2018 - N-400 Interview scheduled

Early Oct 2018 - Attended N-400 Interview and approved

Late Oct 2018 - Oath ceremony scheduled

Thank you for sharing the info and congrats for passing the test. that does seems odd since I751 needs to be approved first before N400. you should schedule an infopass with local office to ensure there is no mistakes.

BTW, where did you interview at?

Hi, @Steph3559

Did the officer accept to do the interview with your husband?

Thank you for sharing your experience, and Congratulations for your N-400 approved.
