I got my notification for N-400 interview on 5/1 but received the actual Notice on 5/3 on the website and 5/6 in the mail.

My interview was scheduled for June 7th. I went in and they did a combined interview. It went smoothly and I got the online notification of approval within 24 hours for both cases and 3 days later in the mail.

The notification of the oath ceremony being scheduled happened  on June 12th ( about 5 days later). I got the online copy of the notice 2 days later and the mail copy on the 17th of June.

I went on July 9th and took the Oath.

Good luck to you.

I went alone and did not need my spouse. I know of others who needed them.

The only additional evidence requested were the bank statements for the time between my filling and the date of the interview to show that we still have joint assets.

His wife couldn't make it because of a school trip.

I think it all depends on the officer. They might/might not interview your spouse. Some people brought their spouse to the interview.. but the spouse was asked to stay outside. some of them went alone, but the officer sent them home because the spouse wasn't there with them for a combo interview.. just bring your spouse just in case, you don't wanna risk getting rescheduled..

Well, technically speaking you only need your spouse if you submitted adjustment of status.  Now, the wanting to interview the spouse is up to the officer's discretion.

As I said, I know people whose spouses got interviewed and others who did not.

In my case, when I originally applied, I submitted enough info to show a bona fide marriage. Things I submitted include  but not limited to:

  • Joint Bank Accounts (sample every 3 months since we created them)
  • Individual Bank Accounts showing cross transactions between us (sample every 3 months Since we started living together)
  • Life insurance policy showing each of us as beneficiary of the other with receipts of regular payments.
  • Medical Joint Coverage with renewals through employer
  • Joint Auto Insurance with renewals and copy of old cards
  • Joint Renters Insurance with renewals
  • Joint Lease Agreements.
  • Vacation and wedding pictures
  • Copy of our old wedding registry
  • Copy of the wedding seating charts
  • Wedding Receipts and contracts
  • Affidavits from Friends and Family
  • Jointly Filed Taxes from when we got married.

My wife counldn;t make it, so we had the principle write a letter which was not needed explaining why she cannot attend. I went in alone with 2 big briefcases:

  1. Included all the originals from when I first applied to come to the US until the day before (including statements from the time I submitted the case till the last available one)
  2. Included a copy of everything in brief case 1.

When I went in, I asked the officer if this is combined and if my spouse is required. He said that we will do the combined and my spouse is not needed for this procedure.

He asked for my ID and green card, I gave him the ID and passport. He pulled up an affidavit that I got my card confiscated and didn’t replace it, that I needed to sign and called another officer as a witness to. He informed me I will need to take it to the oath if I pass the interview.

He said he will start with the I-751 part.

He went through my file and asked for my latest bank statements from the time I applied to N-400 to date (basically 2018 statements). I pulled them out and he scanned them. Then he reviewed basic info with me and asked the normal questions like are you a terrorist, communist, criminal,... and checked the folder quickly for what I submitted and told me my I-751 is approved and we will proceed to the N400 part.

For the N-400 part

He asked me if I want to change my name.

He printed some questions and asked me 6/10 questions that I answered, asked me to read a question and write the answer  he dictated.

He asked me questions covering my willingness to be sworn in like if I am willing to defend the country, renounce allegiance to other countries,...

He Gave me a summary and told me I passed but I will see only recommended for approval till the next update at which point it will be approved. He explained what I need to take to the oath ceremony and the location of the passport agency and how to get an expedited passport if I need one.

He then shook my hand, saying welcome to America and escorted me out
