Welcome! I wanted to take my spouse with me, but my husband was very sick, and he passed away 3 days after the interview sadly. I knew the officer might want to reschedule, so I had a packet ready proving that my husband was sick and I did an request to expedite the oath ceremony based on the humanitarian ground in a special circumstance with tons of medical records, proof of my husband's illness and a central argument saying that if there was gay marriage earlie prior to 2013, we would have been able to get married and he would have been able to see me become a citizen, we knew each other for 21 years and could not get married and applied for immigration until 2013 when Supreme Court gut Defense of Marriage Act that prevented LGBT community to be eligible for federal benefits and Prop 8 that banned gay marriage in CA. I also had additional evidence for our continuous marriage with me for my pending 751 which I voluntarily provided, but the officer told me I had submitted enough evidence for 751.  He did accept my request to expedite and flipped through the packet with me, he also flipped through every page of the request to expedite the oath ceremony packet. The officer was somehow sympathetic, but he said the decision could not he made because he was in charge of 400, not 751 and had to talk to his supervisor. I repeatedly stress the urgency of it. I passed the interview and test, and he told me to wait for further notice. After my love passed 3 days later, I had to wait about 10 days for the death certificate and submitted it to the field office in person so they could convert the 751 to a windowe's 751 waiver application, and a month later after my husband's passing, my 751 was approved on 4/26 and on 5/23, I was naturalized. So my case was a bit complicated, but my love and I did it. I would advise you to take as much evidence as you can if your 751 is pending just in case, and yes, just take your spouse with you for the possible 751 interview, get it done, do not increase the risk of being rescheduled. The officer said they may reschedule our interview in spite of my husband's illness, and if that happened, he said I may have to talk to my lawyer. Anyhow, good luck, and keep us posted. I think you will be ok.

I'm so sorry to hear about your story, but Glad you made it!

Stay strong and my heart goes out for you.

Yes I will def update on what will go down at my interview but from what I am seeing, I guess I will walk in, go ahead with the interview, and then only after I pass, I will bring up ROC, or I might not bring it up at all lol

Unless the IO is well informed and wishes to do a joint interview for ROC and N400

Thank you for your condolences and support. I am sure my husband has been smiling and guiding me from above or in spirit near me.

The officer will probably bring up 751 at some point. If the officer is only in charge of 400, then you and your spouse might be called for the 751 interview. I think you are going to be fine. You are almost done! Good luck and let us know what happens.

Thank you so much for the info! Did they ask for your spouse to come in for interview? I will take mine just in case..

I did not want to have to print quartely joint bank statements/ internet/ electricity bills to take with me as is SO MUCH papers... I just wanted to take what they ask for n400 and 4 years of joint IRS transcripts (the ones they provide online and u print are good enough right?)

I guess I will take the quartely copies of the bills just to be safe tho..

Hopefully is the last time I CAN'T WAIT TO GET DONE WITH THIS lol

I am in Detroit and I wanted to take my wife with me but she couldn’t make it. I ended up taking 2 briefcases: 1 with all the originals since I applied for a US visa, bank statements, affidavits, photos ,...etc and the other with copies of everything. I think each one had like 600 pages.

I went in and the officer didn’t ask about my spouse and told me we are doing a combined interview. He asked for my ID and green card, I gave him the ID and passport. He pulled up an affidavit that I got my card confiscated and didn’t replace it, that I needed to sign and called another officer as a witness to. He informed me I will need to take it to the oath if I pass.

He went through my file and asked for my latest bank statements from the time I applied to N400 to date. I pulled them out and he scanned them. Then he reviewed basic info with me and asked the normal questions like are you a terrorist, communist, criminal,... and checked the folder quickly for what I submitted and told me my I-751 is approved and we will proceed to the N400 part.

He asked me if I want to change my name. He printed some questions and asked me 6/10 questions that I answered, asked me to read a question and write the answer  he dictated. He asked me questions covering my willingness to be sworn in like if I am willing to defend the country, renounce alliegence to other countries,...

then he Gave me a summary and told me I passed but I will see only recommended for approval till the next update at which point it will be approved. He explained what I need to take to the oath ceremony and the location of the passport agency and how to get an expedited passport if I need one.

he then shoke my hand, saying welcome to America and escorted me out

I would advise to bring your spouse. When I asked about the ROC approval, the IO asked my spouse to come and asked her a few questions, even if my spouse was not supposed to be there. Regarding papers, bring updates of what you have submitted for the n400 such as a few bills and bank statements from the last months.

Thanks for advice guys...

I filled ROC and n400 in LOS ANGELES may I got the letter for ROC saying it got transferred to NBC. I have interview for n400 in 8 days and the interview paper said nothing about ROC

Someone told me they called tier 2 and the person helped them with making the interview a joint process

other people went to n400 got citizenship never heard of ROC

other people went to n400 interview were told to go home wait for ROC

I can not afford being on the third case.. Do you guys think is wise calling or biting the bullet and just going for n400 interview as it is? (I don't wanna risk them cancelling my n400 interview date or something)

Wife has her N-400 interview on Tuesday, July 10.  When she got her 551 stamp last month, we were told by the USCIS officer

she would have a combined interview.  We are hoping for the best.

You will have a combined interview for I-751 and N-400 if your I-751 is pending. This is a standard procedure these days. Make sure to go with your spouse to the interview. The IO most probably will interview you and your spouse jointly for the ROC part and interview you separately for N-400. Best wishes.
