thank you for the detail explanation. So basically CSC gonna transfer my I751 to local office( or where they process my N400, which is in DTLA)? CSC wont keep my application and process as others who havent filed the N400? I feel like I mad the mistake to file the N400 which gonna take another year or so

I don't think you made a mistake, many reports show that they do process 751 after 400 interview in the matter of days. If your end goal is 400, then you did the right thing. Why not have both being adjudicated like this and be done with it?

Hi guys,

Wonder if I can get some recommendations. I filed to removed conditions at the CSC office back in July 2017. Looking at the CSC processing times it's says about 17-19months. My extension letter should give me till 09/29/18, I believe I can file for the N-400 in July. My local office is Anchorage and the N400 processing times are at 10-19months. Shall I wait for the I751 to be approved or go file for the N-400 in July? Pro and cons of either?

The interview went ok, I passed the tests, but officer said he is in charge of 400 only, he has to talk to his supervisor about my husband's tough situation(My husband has been in the hospital in and out for almost a month he is on feeding tube and the recovery is unclear), he said they have to approve 751 first, I submitted the request to expedite the oath ceremony, and I had additional evidence for 751 with me, he said he did not need anymore evidence since we had submitted enough of it. I showed the evidence of Stan's medical condition and dr's letters and explained the urgency of expediting the oath ceremony based on humanitarian ground(Stan's last wish to see me become a citizen), he said he would talk to the supervisor tomorrow. One more thing is that there is an IRS bill of 236 dollars, he told me I might need proof of that we paid(we did), and then he said he would just forget about it, he said just wait, there may or may not be a 751interview, but they may waive the interview due to Stan's critical medical condition. Very frustrating they can't reach a decision today, but I am not surprised, if they have to reschedule the interview, I will get my lawyer and have a medical team right next to my husband from the hospital. It is just grueling. I hope the supervisor will see the medical evidence I submitted and approve my application before it is too late. Just have to wait and see at this point

Thanks for sharing your interview experience and congratulations on passing N-400 interview! I hope you get your oath ceremony soon. Also wishing a speedy recovery to your husband!

The clock for naturalization doesn’t start until you file the N400 regardless of the I751 status.  If naturalization is the goal, why not start it when you can.

Hi everyone,

I just had my combo interview yesterday on March 27, 2018 at Salt Lake City, Utah. The entire process is very smooth. Here are some details about my interview experience:

-We arrived at the field office around 12:10 pm, and there were not a lot of people there, we waited for about 15 mins then the office called us. The officer was very nice and knew that we are a military family as he was prior military personnel as well. First, he had us raised our right hands and swore that we will tell the truth. After that, he just looked through my I-751 file and asked me if we have more evidence since 2016, I gave him bank statements, utility bills, insurance card, etc, and the officer just punched it and added those into the file. At the same time we were just casually chatting and he was just doing his own thing on the application and didn't ask any question and seconds later, he said " This one is approved, and now I will have to excuse you to lobby while I conduct N-400 interview with you husband". So, that was it for I-751, very quick and smooth, no issue at all.

-For my N-400, he didn't really ask any more stuff and we were just chatting while he putting in information in his computer and moments later, he gave me to papers and asked me to read "Who can vote?" and asked  me to write "Citizens can vote" and I passed all of them, after that we started the civic test, I only remembered 4 out of 6 questions cause I just can't not remember all of them lol. But here are the questions were asked:

1. Who were brought to the US and sold as slaves?

2. What the name of the Vice President?

3. Who did the colonists fight the British?

4. What is the highest court in the US?

After that, the officer informed me that I am all done and approved. Then the officer informed me that the next oath ceremony is on April 11, but I told him that my husband is deploying to Korea during that time and we are moving to our new station in the summer right after his return, and I will need him to be at the ceremony for the special moment. The officer is kind and nice to ask his supervisor to see if we could take oath right there and then. We waited for about 20 mins or so then we were called into the conference room and I was swore in by the center director.

I am so happy to announce that I am a proud citizen!

congrats !!!

it has to be done by a judge in some states

Just sharing what I've read guys:

"(ii) Form N-400 Filed under Section 319(a) or 319(b).

In almost all cases, a Form N-400 that is filed while a Form I-751 is pending will have been filed pursuant to section 319(a) or 319(b) of the Act. These provisions require a higher level of evidence of marital union and joint residence than is required for the approval of Form I-751 filed jointly.

If a Form I-751 is pending at the time of the conditional permanent resident’s Form N-400 examination, the adjudicator should conduct the examination for naturalization. The adjudicator should ensure that the applicant has established that they are the spouse of the qualifying U.S. citizen and that they are in a bona fide marriage prior to the favorable adjudication of their Form N-400.

If the Form I-751 is in the applicant’s A-file and the applicant establishes their eligibility for naturalization under section 319(a) or 319(b), and also established that they have met the requirements under sections 216(b)(1) and 216(d)(1)(A) of the Act (as evidenced by such documentation listed in 8 CFR 216.4(a)(5)), the adjudicator may approve the applicant’s Form I-751 and Form N-400 concurrently. See paragraph (2)(A) of subchapter 25.1(k) and subchapter 25.1(e) of this manual.

If the Form I-751 is not in the applicant’s A-file, the adjudicator should proceed with the naturalization examination and request the pending Form I-751 from the USCIS office with custody of the petition. However, the applicant’s Form N-400 should not be approved until the pending Form I-751 is reviewed and approved based on a determination that the applicant meets the requirements of section 216 of the Act. See paragraph (2)(A)(i) of subchapter 25.1(k) of this manual."

God has perfect timing; never early, never late. It takes a little patience and it takes a lot of faith but it's worth the wait. ❤️

Hi guys,

I just had an interview, and no where did they ask for me to bring my spouse with me. I still have a pending I751, and they just sent me a letter for my interview for my N400 on April 11th.  Should I bring my spouse with me? She is busy and works but I do not know if she will be needed, as they letter only specified that I should be present, and never specified that we should both be there. Thanks,

Congrats. My husband is in the hospital fighting for his life and I presented as much evidence as I could with a package of expedited oath ceremony during the interview, he could not give me an answer, and could not talk to his supervisor, but he said he would talk to him yesterday. I am happy for you, but if it weren't for DOMA that prevented LGBT people from getting immigration benefits, we would not be in this situation. It is so unfair, but it is what it is. My husband might not be alive to see me become a citizen. It really makes me angry, but anyway, I have to stay strong and just wait and wait. If my husband passes before the oath, my naturaization will be canceled, and I will have to make an appointment with USCIS and explain to them so they will issue my 10 year green card. Well, congrats, glad it went so smoothly with you, I wish u could take my husband with me, be he was in critical condition, with the evidence I submitted, they should easily weigh the interview and adjudicate both. I am just praying every day for my husband's recovery and the approval of my naturalization.

my understanding is:

i-751 interview is for both husband and wife;

n-400 is just for applicant

This is way too important, so do everything you can and take your wife to the interview and be done with it. I wanted to take my husband with me, but he was in critical condition, so I could not, and as a result, they could not make a decision. I would just do it, if she is busy, just tell her to take a day off and go to the interview with you, get it done. Why run the risk of delaying your application?
