Many of you get your biometrics shortly after you file your I-751, long before you can file your N400.  In spite of this, the two timelines seem to converge.  See all the people who are having both interviews together.

For us, the biometrics were about 9-10 months after the I-751 was filed.  The I-751 seems almost irrelevant, since the N400 is likely to get citizenship by about the end of the year.  Then we won't care how long the I-751 takes.  It will be moot. We could easily have postponed the I-751 biometrics, saved a trip, and then done the I-751 biometrics when we do the N400 biometrics.  YMMV.

You do realize that the N400 cannot be approved until the I751 is also approved?  So it does matter how long it takes so-to-speak.  I do agree though that the I751 is really a formality for someone pursuing naturalization under the 3 year rule.

As @Bill & Katya said, “Your N-400 depends on the approval of your I-751.” These two applications are connected. If your I-751 does not get approved you cannot move to citizenship and I would presume you want to get citizenship as soon as you can. So, in that vain, the I-751 does matter.

When you get your N400 interview and attend, the IO will do an I-751 interview as well as an N-400 interview. Remember to take in originals of documents you sent for your I-751 and N-400 applications.

Just to clarify, the IO may conduct an I751 interview, I have been hearing stories of this not happening all the time.  In our case, we did have a very brief I751 interview (unannounced) at Katya's N400 interview, so I was happy I accompanied her.

I had N400 interview WITHOUT I751 approved and now I’m still pending, waiting for miracle to happen. CSC didn’t send my I751 documents to the officer until the interview, so he couldn’t have approved me. My husband came with me, but wasn’t invited in with me.

No worries.  What the IOs should do and what they actually do can be very different.

In the situation where I-751 is important even you file N-400 and received N-400 interview.  If NBC does not recall I-751 and attached with N-400 and send together during N-400 interview, then after passing N-400, you need to wait for I-751 to be approved before N-400 can be approved.  Also I have seen, since I-751 file did not not reach the local office, they did not conduct N-400 interview either.

You will hear good news any day, if your I-751 has good amount of evidences.

Thank you, I am aware of it. The thing is, as I already wrote couple of times, my local office requested I751 two times before my interview, no one replied. I found out that my I751 case wa apart (maybe still is) of some project in CSC

I will hit 19.5 months maximum processing time for CSC for I751 in couple of days.

Congratulations to all who have successfully passed the naturalization.

A question, I have pending I-751 and N-400 and submitted in July 2018( N-400) in Baltimore, MD.

After the N-400 submission till interview date, I have additional evidence. I have a 4 big folders.

My 1st question is : Is they allow big bag or small luggage to carry in the interview area?

After marriage my wife change her last name and add my last name in her name.

She filed USCIS for name change and it is still pending with USCIS. Although we have court order for her name change also.

My 2nd question is : My wife naturalization certificate is with USCIS and We have photocopy of  my wife naturalization certificate. I have a receipt that her name changing is in progress in USCIS.

Can i have to prepare r bring additional documents or anything for this ?

Please suggest ?

I brought old and new evidence in slimmer backpack to the N400 interview. (It was documents for pending I751 and N400, almost everything the same).
