Hello, I am just joining the thread due to my recent submission of N400 while I-751 is still pending. I guess it is a silly question but still: is it possible for I-751 get approval while N400 still pending? Or it has to be both at the same time?

Hey,

Yes, this is possible.  This has been happening to many cases, especially those who file N-400 while I-751 still pending but, their I-751 get approved without an interview.

My case is the situation you mentioned above.  I751 approved without any interview or REF, still waiting for any action on N-400.

Hope that helps!

Hi guys,

I had N-400 interview on 6/13/2019 in NJ. The interview and tests went well but I was not approved on spot because my I-751 is still pending.

At the beginning, the IO (a very kind lady) told me she could do a combo interview but she couldn't find my I-751 folder, which never happened to her before.  However she still conducted the I-751 interview. I really appreciated it.  she printed out a questionnaire and wrote down all the answers I gave to her. After that, we went to the N-400 interview.  She said she would have approved both but she did not have my I-751 information at hand.  She told me to relax and she would find out what's going on for my I-751. She asked me to wait up to 2 weeks.

I filed I-751 1/29/2018 and N-400 1/23/2019 to Vermont. "fingerprint review was completed" for my I-751 has not changed since April 4, 2018.

Hope she can find my I-751 info and give me approvals asap. Fingers crossed.

This week, I got a regular email from USCIS saying that "We last took action on your case on May 21, 2019. After I logged on to my USCIS account, I did not see any updates on May 21 on both my I-751 and N-400 accounts.  The last action they took is that they schedule an interview for my N-400 on May 8th. I don't know what action they took on May 21. They may have send my I-751 file to the local office for a combo interview. But my IO did not receive my I-751 documents. What happened? Any one have the same experience? It's really frustrating!

I hope your case get resolved soon. May I ask about which questions they ask you during the interview. Thanks.

Thank you mz_066.

I got an update for my I-751 today. My local office has received my I-751 case. I will give them a week to process my case both I-751 and N-400.

Questions for I-751 are like I-485 interview but much less tense. My IO asked such questions as my spouse's name, where and when we met, his siblings' names, what he does, what company he works for, where we live, his birthday, why we dont have kids... very basic questions.

No special questions for N-400. We just went though all yes and no questions and tests.

Hope this is helpful.

We went to the office together, but he did not attend the interview.

Thanks,

I just finished my interview.

the IO was focusing to much about my lease agreement and how I have a lease from the owner not the company., and keep saying this illegal for someone to rent his house without permit from the bank . and he was asking for W2 even I have tax return forms already. At the end he said will email me a RFE to proof how I rent my place and send W2. Its't weird???

They have to approve you I-751 first. It's normal to be requested for more evidence about I-751. So don't worry. Once you submit all evidence they need, your I-751 and N-400 will be approved together soon.

Did you pass the tests?

But I did already N-400 exams. so I'm confused now.

Yes, you did a combo interview. Even you passed the N-400 interview and tests, you can't get your N-400 approved till your I-751 is approved.

I see,

But I don't need another interview or anything, just sending the papers.
