Hi guys,
I need your advice & I'd like to hear what your thoughts are. I filed my i 751 on July 22 2017 and still waiting like many folks here. I am eligible to file for N-400 online but I still haven't filed yet. This is because we have been waiting for my husband's tax transcript to come back, in which we filed together.

He filed tax since April and somehow it's taking the IRS extra long to process his tax return. I wanted to add the tax transcript as a part of our evidence since this is the first year that we file together (he has been a grad student for 3 years & wasn't working during grad school). I have shared lease, utilities, cell phone bills, renters insurance, health insurance, and bank accounts as supporting documents, but i thought that having the tax transcript would be a good idea.
What do you think? Should I wait or should I go ahead and file N-400 ?
many thanks,

Oath ceremony next week!!??  :wow::wow::wow:

Since the Portland office processes applications so fast, USCIS should have transferred some of the Portland employees to the Seattle office during the summer!

Yes. I filed for naturalization in March 2018 with a pending I-751. I am very excited. If USCIS transfer Portland employees to Seattle then Portland field office will become Seatle field office  You can still move to Portland and I bet you would be naturalized sooner then the rest of the Seatle applicants whose cases are pending for a year.

Anybody here from Chicago who had their combo interview approved? I am hearing on other threads that Chicago office doesn't do combo interview even if the spouse is present. My wife is March 2017 i-751 filer (currently pending and transferred to NBC) and February 2018 N400 filer. Her N400 interview was just scheduled for 10/03/18. Do you folks think that they we will successfully receive a combo interview? Or is our journey still going to be significantly longer?

Some do combo interviews, some don't, but most have 751/400 pending should assume they are going to do a combo and be prepared and take their American citizen spouses with them just to be on the safe side.

When my wife filed, she counted all the trips even if they were prior to the GC (w/ AP) or past the 3 year anniversary of the GC.  She was not close to the 18 month rule, but I think if she was then we could have argued to only count the trips in the 3 year GC window.  In fact my wife told me the IO asked her if she had any other international trips between when she filed the N400 and when the interview was held.

Good Luck!

Assuming you lived in the US for 8 years and that every year you exist the US for 3 weeks, you will be barely on the edge of the 6 months.

You are welcome. There isn't much happening here in Portland so I thought to read about Seatle so I can give you some news you might not be aware Lollzzzzz. By the way Next week I will have my oath ceremony. Thanks for all of your support since last year when I joined the VJ community. I am very thankful to @Zombie69 too. It is bizarre to see Seatle processing with such a pace due to gigantic piles of applications. They are aware of this backlog and should have hired more employees to deal with it. It is insane that applicants have to wait for such a long time.

Congratulations, let us know how the ceremony goes.

There's a couple of Seattle combo filers in this thread and they have confirmed that it's a long wait. It sort of depends on your priorities. There could be a delay on GC processing if both applications are routed to Seattle, so if having a 10 yr GC is a big priority then you might want to wait. On the other hand, if naturalization is your big priority, then getting in queue in Seattle ASAP is the route to go.

My opinion, which is just a feeling really, is that Seattle is going to have to get their act together. They're going to have to process GC's separately from the N400's to avoid further delays for people, or hire a bunch of people and work down the entire backlog. I'm guessing that 3 months from now things might look differently at the Seattle office. However, I'm just spitballing here.

I agree!  Yes, it depends on your priorities!

My priority was to be able to vote in Nov so that's why I applied for N-400.      Well, it doesn't look like I'll be able to do that so I might have waited to get my 10-year Green Card first if I had known that the Seattle office was going to slow down dramatically.  :bonk:

Of course, I was just being too optimistic and happy go lucky!

Seattle is among the dangerously backlogged offices in the country. Sucks like hell to be a filer in this city now. Ideally the wait time is roughly 14 months though if you’re slightly lucky you might hit a few months before that. The processing times have been random for a few lucky peeps. 2 October 2017 filers from this thread had interview letters in June (8 months), and 1 lucky December 2017 filer also did have around that same time. Right now July 2017 filers are the main ones receiving interview letters. My I-751 is still pending since December 2016 as it got transferred to NBC in May to be adjudicated together with my N 400 (same will happen to you if you file your N 400 while I-751 is still pending). My N 400 is also pending as of December 2017 and the estimated completion date says January 2019. I have an infopass appointment to request a second I-551 stamp on my passport next week as the one issued last December is expiring early next month. If getting your citizenship is the ultimate goal then go ahead and apply now to cut the waiting process early enough. You’ll just have to deal with possibility of not getting a physical 10 year greencard but citizenship instead.

Adjustment of Status From F-1 Visa.

9/24/2014: EAD approved. 36 Days!

10/01/2014: EAD mailed.

10/03/2014: Received EAD card.

1/28/2015: Interview scheduled for 3/4/2015.

1/31/2015: Received interview notice.

3/4/2015: Interview completed and APPROVED!

Removal of Conditions:

12/19/2016: NOA issued.

01/26/2017: Biometrics.

05/03/2018: I-751 transfered to NBC.

02/27/2019: Joint I-751/N-400 Interview.

05/14/2019: I-751 APPROVED.

Naturalization:

12/02/2017: Mailed N 400 to Phoenix, AZ Lockbox. (I-751 still pending)

12/05/2017: Package delivered in Phoenix, AZ. Transferred to Harrisonburg Processing Center.

12/07/2017: Notice of action issued. (IOE)

12/26/2017: Biometrics.

01/23/2019: Interview Scheduled for 2/27/2019.

02/27/2019: Joint I-751/N-400 interview. N-400 recommended for approval.

05/16/2019: N-400 APPROVED! Placed in line for oath ceremony.

05/17/2019: Oath ceremony notice mailed.
