Interview Baku, Azerbaijan

My wife interviewed today. Apparently they asked her two questions she didn't know how to respond to. One was the fact I just got a new job that takes me way above the poverty levels (graduate student). I hadn't discussed it with my wife as my position doesn't even have a title yet, I just sent over an letter from my employer. The interviewer asked her about what I would be doing. When she couldn't respond, the interview asked how is it that her husband doesn't say what he does?

Second part was she took a trip to Japan on a government financed trip. The embassy had a hard time understanding how this was connected to work or even occurred.

After all this, they told her she'd get her visa in two weeks after a US background check. I assume this means she actually is getting her visa and that the background check is a formality? If they wanted to deny her, they would have done it there on the spot.

no! not all denials are instantanous, infact I have not seen many that have been denied with any quickness.

what happens if the embassy feels they have to question your case they will place you on Admin processing or they would return the petition. if its admin processsing this is similar to your parents saying " let me think about it ". but, return of the petition is like " let me see what your father sayes . this is basicly the embassy feeling like they should deny it but, they want a second opinion. if this happend certainly you would have the option of responding. i dont think this happend in your case because, you would have a letter saying so.

as far as admin processing - I think this is what is happening to your case. its not always reguarding background checks but it can be for other reasons.. there is NO TIME limit for AP/AR. it can take a few weeks to years. as in our case we been waiting 2 years.

what I recommend is contact the Department of state and checck the status of your case. call often because, when the embassy is ready to make a decision often times the Department of state knows first. if the ADMIN PROCESSING

LAST like over 3 months. contact your local congressmans liasion in your area.

Apparently the officer at the embassy was a real hard ### and I suspect my wife talked too much. They were asking questions about where my family was at at the wedding (they were not present due to passports and finances), what my parent's religion was, how long have I adhered to my religion, why we didn't pursue CR-1 (after a year of being married, we are sick of waiting), etc. Where do those questions come from?

They indicated a decision in two-three weeks. I hope her visa is granted because now is not the best time for me to be moving to Baku. I'll do it if that is what it takes. What an emotional drama.

Security check over with. Standard as I suspected. She got her visa a little over an hour a go. We'll actually be able to celebrate or first anniversary together! Thanks US govt.
