Hi,

I got a 1 year extension (2days ago) after I submitted my I-751 a couple weeks back. My question is, how long do I have to wait till they give me my 10yr permanent greencard? I filed here in california. Does anyone here have/had a similar situation as mine?

Thanks again

I think atleast 3 mos before the expiration date of your conditional green card you have to file and submit the form I-751 to remove the conditional card in order to get the 10 years. pls Correct me if i am wrong okey!

Congrats for your extension! by the way just got my first working permit till 2008 of feb. so i can apply 3 mos. before the exp. date of my ead card right? Thanks a lot!

God bless!

You will have to wait as long as it takes.

I-751s can take anywhere from 3-18 months to be adjudicated. If you are getting to the expiration of your NOA letter, you can go to your District Office for an I-551 stamp.

There is no way to track an individual I-751 online or over the phone; you just have to wait. You should not be inconvenienced in anyway during this wait time. You may also apply for naturalization on schedule, even if you have not got an answer on the I-751.

Mauxena,

Let me just say that I really find your advices really helpful and I hope you won't get tired answering any of my quiries or someone else's...Bless your heart (L)

Now you really had me intrigued by this statement:

"You may also apply for naturalization on schedule, even if you have not got an answer on the I-751"...

When and how do can I do this again?? :clock:

heheh, thanks Danny_M.

Details about applying for US citizenship (based on marriage to a US citizen) are in the pinned post in the US Citizenship Forum here.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=311

I bring up the I-751 because logic might lead you to think that you can not move forward with naturalization until the I-751 is adjudicated (decided), but remember that logic has little to do with it!

There are a number of requirements for naturalization; if you meet them and your scheduled time to apply comes up, you can still send in the app. If worst came to worst and you were called for your citizenship interview, the officer would do the I-751 first, and then approve the citizenship.

Fun! :)

Earliest application opportunity is 90 days before your third anniversary as a Permanent Resident. All other terms must be met as well (see links in the pinned post for eligibility requirements).

meauxna, (sorry if I mispelled your name the first time)

I will definitely do as you say. At least this will be a good reading material while my I-751 request is being processed. :) My hope is that we won't be required to come in for a personal interview since my wife is abroad right now pursuing her graduate studies. BTW, on a side note, will this affect our application in anyway? I mean, my wife (the USC) being in another country and all?

I surely hope not

If you were scheduled for an interview while your wife is overseas, you should contct the local office as there'd be little point in conducting it in her absence.
