It largely depends on what the degree is in, what college she went to, if it's accredited, etc. I know for example, nurses (I'm a nurse) still have to do the NCLEX in the US, it isn't equivalent. I would imagine if it's a specific field and she has work in that field she could apply for a similar type of job here. If it's something that is more technical (computer related, accounting, etc) that may have different laws/standards, they may be some re-training here that would be needed. It's difficult to say exactly with a question that is vague like that.

I would say if she has any credentials, has passed any standardized tests, has certifications, etc - she should bring those too.

I used the services of this company (https://www.wes.org/) to get an official equivalency of my degrees for the US, one of them also IT. More than the degree itself, it mostly depends on where you studied it. The company I mentioned seems to be the most recognized one there, but there are others. Hope it helps.

Yes she should be able to have a transfer of degree. Go to a foreign credentials evaluation Agency such as WES. I think WES has more complicated requirements such as "sealed copy of foreign transcripts SENT DIRECTLY from the school to the accrediting agency". A cheaper option is Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA).

http://foreigncredentials.org/

The FCSA is around $190 for course-by-course evaluation and they accept scanned copy of foreign transcript of records.

Now does it guarantee a job? NO. You mentioned she got BS Computer and Information Technology.

Really depends where you live in U.S.. If you live in a bigger city where there are software developments going on e.g. Atlanta, Seattle, Duluth GA, etc then looking for a job isnt that difficult. But if you live in a small town like where I live NOPE! The competition is higher. More supply (graduates), Less Demand (jobs).

I graduated BS Computer Engineering with Magna Cum Laude and my US equivalent GPA is 3.70. Even with such credentials, I cannot get a job here in Corpus Christi related to my degree. I get job offers from Dallas area or Houston but I am not leaving my husband. Thus, used the transferred grades to pursue masters to start a new career. All my subjects are credited though.

I think that any of those credential evaluation services are more suited to those trying to further their education or gain accreditation. For job applications, simply having a degree seems to be enough to pass muster.

A degree just gets you through the door - experience is way more useful.

True dat! And where I am, there's a bunch of jobs that require US citizens - or people that can qualify for security clearance (which also means US citizens).

I get offers from all over the US. At least in IT, though, there's a good chance you can work remotely (or virtually - which always reminds me of the old joke - if a bus stops at a bus station and a train stops at a train station, what happens at a work station? - or a Russian colleague that fell out laughing over the difference between "working hard" and "hardly working").

Hmm... not necessarily. Many immigrants come from parts of the world that employers may not know enough about the colleges there, and indeed some degrees from certain countries are not actually equivalent to a US 4-year college degree. My husband had to get WES evaluation on his degree as a condition of his job offer, though the company paid for it.  By contrast, I have a graduate degree from a well-known UK university and that has always been accepted at face value on my resume.

Why does one need to take NLCLEX in USA?  Why can't it be taken in Manila or Hong Kong or other parts of the world?  Never heard you had to NCLEX in USA only, Is this a new rule?

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

I don't know if the U.S. exam can be given in other parts of the world anymore than I would know if I could take an exam to be a nurse in Hong Kong in the US. My emphasis was more that the exam needs to be taken for nursing, as educational requirements and standards vary by country.

We are talking about taking the NCLEX exam, it is given internationally. Has been for as long as I remember.  You submit your application to your the state board where you plan to work and they approve you and then you can take the NCLEX where ever you want.

Testing centers are in Manila,  Hong Kong, Taiwan and other parts of the world.

You stated you could only take the NCLEX exam inside the USA .  Since they still have testing centers outside the USA I am confident you can still take then any where you want just as long as your get your approval to take the NCLEX

I have Actuarial Science degree and have 4 years of experience of it working in the Philippines. Almost two years working on a US company that hire offsite employees in PH. My first job here in the US is a programmer. Then after a month of doing programming, I found Actuarial job and been working there since. What worked for me is I have two US professional reference that have same job degree as I do.
