affidavit of support + tax return

Hi everyone,

Just filed the I-129F and I'm looking ahead to next steps. For the affidavit of support, I'm just wondering if last year's tax return is necessary. My income is well above the poverty line, but I began this job in May and therefore my last tax return will not reflect my current employment. I was a graduate student for the past two years and only worked part-time (would not meet the poverty line I believe with my part-time income).

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Kailyn

Generally the past 3 years of tax returns are recommend, and most embassies require at least the past year's tax return. Even if you didn't earn enough income that year to meet the poverty level, you can supplement it with bank statements and an employer letter that states your salary and how long you have been with the company in order to prove your support.

To piggy back on this topic- wondering if not having any tax return info will impair our case? I do have pay stubs and the offer letter from my current company here in the US, but I was living in Belgium working at a university until summer of 2017. The university paid me on "scholarship" (so they could dodge taxes...) so I don't have tax returns from Belgium, either.  Any thoughts on how that plays out?

Hi, hoping I can get someone's advice about the support requirement. Myself and my partner are currently living in Australia and since he wants to move back to the US we are applying for the visa so I can go with him. My concern is that we will both be leaving our jobs and he will be moving back to the US and may not have a permanent job at the time of us going through the stage of providing the affidavit of support. If we have both had good incomes in the past and have a high earning potential in the states is this likely to be enough? Or should I be sending him back now to find a job before we get to that stage??? (this would suck!)

I have a question, if anyone knows what the right thing to do is. My interview is on the 30th of jan and my fiance just sent me the required documents including the affidavit. However he feels he is going to lose his job in a few days. what happens if im at my interview and he has lost his job?
