Bringing a pet to the U.S. UNACCOMPANIED

Hello! I've perused through similar threads in the forum but haven't come across any answers yet. My question is not about the process of bringing a pet over; it is about the transport stage of the process.

My family and I left our cat in Korea back in May, and now we have a chance to bring him to the U.S. However, must he be accompanied by a person on the flight?

My sis-in-law has been taking care of him, and while she can take him to the airport, she can't accompany him. I can't afford to send my wife and toddler to get him either.

Can my sis-in-law simply check him in at the airport in Korea and then we pick him up here?

No, he doesn’t need to be accompanied. Ours came on a different flight and at a different date to us. We did use a pet transport company to take to the airport in the home country and to fetch in the US, but you can do both yourselves. You will need to ensure that all the appropriate paperwork, vaccinations etc are done when he gets dropped off at the airport. Depending what type of pet, certain vaccinations may need to be done by a certain number of weeks before he gets transported. As long as everything is in order it should be fine.

I'm using a company to ship my dog over from the UK she will be on a different flight to me. She had to be up to date on her vaccinations (finalised atleast 2 weeks before flying) and have her rabies jab (finalised 30 days before flying) costing £120 / $157. Just bare in mind it can be quite expensive, I think it's cheaper for cats but my dog is costing me £2,000 ($2,625) not including the vet bills, but she is my baby and I would never leave her behind lol

We paid around $1000 for the ticket for our cat from South Africa to SFO - could have got cheaper but we used KLM as they seem to be really good at animal transport. Vaccinations needed to have been completed between  1 and 12 months prior to flying. Bear in mind the US, not being an island, is not as strict as some other countries re vaccinations & I believe some airlines actually have stricter requirements for transportation of pets than the US has for allowing them in!

Yeah I think it ever so slightly changes depending on country. The same as you i picked one that was on the higher end of price and that was purely because the company im using is really nice and professional and literally across the street from Heathrow, so it puts my mind at ease that she will be taken care of! It's not a cheap doo bringing over our fluffy family members is it lol
