Alright guys, i feel you all!

I read whole thread and i see zaib have longer ap than others.

Quickly i will suggest you few things. First of all Stop sending emails to embassy, its useless as you gonna get the same reply everytime with different words.

Dragging congressman or senetor in your case is useless cause ap cannot be waived or expidite.

Your best bet is  to wait and be busy in your routine life and meantime keep eye on yr email or postbox or sometime nvc status check tool. If there is something eventually you gonna get it.

Just for your information, my brother family interviewd at islamabad embassy in March 2016 and as of today they are in AP. I tried everything but no luck! But still i wish you guys good luck!

How many times is a case status updated (under AP) before the visa is issued?

It's different for everyone but if your date is changing a lot in a week or so that means they are working on your case and you should get an issue. I know some people who never got a date change and they were issued. It all depends on ones case.

Does sending an email to "nvcinquiry@state" update the case (under AP) last updated date or does it happen only if you email the embassy?

I think each time you send an email
