mailing to USCIS

hello everyone!

my husband and i would like to know which courier or postal service to use in mailing our I-130 submission? i would think USPS is fine - my husband would like to make sure. also, should we use a padded envelop just so the documents dont get jacked up when it arrives in USCIS?

I mailed mine via the USPS, first class, with delivery confirmation (but not the kind that needs to be signed for, just the regular one that tells you it was delivered, very simple and inexpensive) and it all went just fine. Used a padded envelope (just because it seemed stronger.

I wouldn't worry about spending the extra money and worry on UPS or FedEx, etc.

Regular first class mail will get it there - and no matter what your service center, it won't take more than a few days to get there.

I spent .99 cents on a regular large brown envelope at Wal-Mart and then sent it ceritified mail with return receipt. The whole thing cost me about $7 and that was it. I was able to track the package and then received the green slip in the mail with the signature and date of when it was received.

Throughout the entire process, every single thing I had to mail, I just stuck in an envelope with a stamp and threw it in the mailbox. Never did any confirmations or anything special.

Stress yourself too much over all the little things and you will drive yourself crazy!

I put everything in a manila envelope, and at USPS put it in an Express Service envelope which is bigger. The service came with tracking & delivery confirmation, but in addition I got the green return receipt card.

I sent it on a thursday afternoon and they guaranteed delivery by next day before noon (sent from Florida to Texas).

Looking back, the return receipt option is really not necessary since you're mailing to a P.O. Box anyway and the mail guy doesn't have to wait for someone at the P.O. to sign.

Oh, by the way... let's not forget the most important fact: Only USPS can deliver to P.O. boxes.

Yeah, I was going to say, FEDEX, UPS, and DHL will NOT deliver to PO Boxes, regardless if its a government one or not. Trust me, I learned the hard way. and besides, delivery confirmation with USPS is only 50 cents extra and a document envelope via priority mail runs between $4-6 so its a lot cheaper anyway for the same thing
