Hi,

So my spouse finally got her green card interview notification, but it said we needed a Form I-693, which we weren't aware of. Now we were out of the country celebrating our anniversary when this letter arrived, and now have only three days before the interview since our held mail got delivered today as we only got back last night (though judging by the date on the letter, we would've had less than 2 weeks to complete these step anyway). Is showing up without this form going to lead to her denial, or will they just request we submit this within 30 days or something? Also, any idea on costs of the medical exam? She was medically examined by an embassy doctor before her K-1 visa interview last year in September, so not sure if that's good or not.

Please help me out with any info you might have.

Thanks!

Hello Cal,

The medical is only good for one year. Which means that your wife's medical expired on September. She will need to go to a Medical doctor authorized by the USCIS. Use this website to look for doctors. https://my.uscis.gov/findadoctor

I would call each office and make a list of prices and how fast they can get the blood test. In my case, we received the RFE at the interview. The officer asked for me to bring back the results back to him personally.. (ask for him at the desk) my husband had his blood test on Tuesday and his blood results arrived on Thursday. We paid 350.  A lot of the doctors charge 350-500$. Hope this is helpful.

Hi MyMistaLovaLova,

Yes that is helpful! I heard the blood test won't typically be covered by insurance either, correct? Also that's a great link! I think my wife was looking at it earlier as well. So at least that's a relief as well that it's not an outright denial if you don't have this done in time for the interview. We had EVERYTHING else covered but this, and since our notice came when we were traveling out of the country, to get this letter only three days before our interview it's like WOW! Not a lot of time! Still we'll try to get an appointment ASAP and get this done.

Thanks so much for the info!

No problem. When calling the physicians, ask if you may just walk in. That's what I did with my husband. I wish you the best of luck!!!

Also good to know! Thanks again for the advice! I'm sure we can get this done fairly quickly, if not before the interview, then shortly after.
