The widow of a fallen US soldier says President Trump couldn't remember her husband's name during a controversial phone call.

Myeshia Johnson, widow of Sgt La David Johnson, told ABC News the president's "stumbling" had "hurt her the most".

"..If my husband is out here fighting for our country and he risks his life for our country, why can't you remember his name?" she added.

Sgt La David Johnson was killed in Niger by Islamist militants this month.

President Trump's call of condolence made headlines when congresswoman Frederica Wilson - who heard it with the family - claimed he had been insensitive

I guess Trump should have listened to General Kelly and not called the families of fallen service people.  It is sad that this family and their whacky congressperson friend decided to make this a political issue.

Trump fumbled the ball, I don't think it was malicious, he just is lLL equiped for the job. His staff would have been advised just to have a letter written.

That call required research of the facts, disclpine, humility, empathy and the ability to understand his audience. Why he can read a room and incite folks to chant build the wall or lock her up but not deliver a simple message of "the people of this nation are sorry for your loss and are deeply appreciative of the courage and commitment to his country" we may never understand.

As Commander in Chief he should be making the call and should be equipped to know how to deal with such difficult situations. He handled it neither tactfully or with sensitivity and is making the problem worse. I liken it to the 'pastor' who presided over my grandfather's funeral, and knew nothing about him, and didn't care to even remember his name... it made my whole family embarrassed and upset. When we moved over to the military side of things, everything was handled with beautiful care and respect.

This widow deserves answers and sympathy from the person in the WH. She's raised a few questions regarding the state of her husband's body... and no matter how horrible the circumstances of his death, she deserves to know what happened to him. She has the right to discuss how she feels about the situation, and any decent and good person should know how much of a burden it is, and how the situation should have been handled in speaking with her.

What are we gonna do? He is the commander in chief for the time being. No one appears to be able to coach the president.

It's already been proven the whack job from the congress totally misrepresented the entire call. What a shame the widow would use her political hatred of Trump  to make hay over her dead husband. I have no doubt she has had some coaching

Trump says he has proof that he was misrepresented. Just like with his taxes, he has not yet provided that information. Trump's claim is called allegation, not proof. Given Trump's past  difficulties in reconciling his version of event's with reality, his claim of proof is meaningless until he backs it up.

So far, the white house has not refuted Wilson's version of the call, and two of Johnson's family member's have confirmed what Wilson said.

Yes…Wacky Wilson is no friend of veterans.  As far as the widow goes….she is rightfully upset/devastated that her husband was killed and people react differently to people who try to help.

It's all about him. He's the victim and he has words about "Hizbollah", too.

Yeah the widow of the fallen soldier has the right to be mad right now because her husband and the father of her children is dead. But Rep. Wilson is just using this opportunity to make a dig at Trump and make her star raise high in the DNC.

The majority of KIA's families during Iraq and Afghanistan did not receive a phone call at all but just a letter from the CinC. So she should feel honored that she got a phone call at all in my mind.

The widow does deserve answers and I would like to hear them as well, because he was found about a mile away from the ambush site and a day later. So I want to know what exactly happened. I have heard some things through the grapevine but I won't say them until I have proof.

Kelly's presser last week also confirms Wilsons version. Kelly just does not agree that these topics should be politicized.

I agree as such as well. Kelley is a no nonsense kind of guy. He is also a Gold Star father as well because his son died in Afghanistan in 2010.
