I think humanity is a contributing factor currently.  But not for the previous 5 million or so years, in which climate cycles occurred with regularity.

Thanks, we all agree that the climate has changed throughout the planet's history. What scientists are arguing is that the current climate is over and above what scientists believe should be happening. I understand records for accurate temperature readings only go back so far, but scientists have other ways of extrapolating out how the planet's climate has changed over time Ice core samples, historical records, tree growth rings, etc, etc. I know climate change theory may seem very complicated to you, and that is okay. What is not okay is mocking anyone who believes in it, when there are no other working theories that explain why our climate is changing as quickly as it is. Come up with a plausible working theory, and then we might take climate change deniers seriously.

Thanks for the backhanded attempt at belittling me.  But it’s not necessary, because I am above average intelligence and have no problem comprehending that without man’s help, the climate has changed, and much more drastically than we are seeing now, prior to man being on earth.  

 

I have mocked no one.  Just as I have not mocked flat-earthers.  Everyone has to have something to believe in, and even if it’s wacky, that’s ok by me, as long as it doesn’t hurt me or my family.  All I have done here is point out the obvious... man may have a tiny effect on the climate.  But in the global perspective of things, I think not as much as some think.  Purely my opinion, and I am not asking you to join my side; if you want to be in the Chicken Little group, that is your choice.

Meh, it’s all good.  It only hurt when I touched it after your extremely harsh words.  (Joking)

 

I do the same thing sometimes.  Words come across harsher when written than when spoken.  I probably only noticed it because it’s not like you to talk that way, as some do here on a regular basis.

 

But seriously...  let’s assume for a moment that man IS having a significant impact on the earth with all the fossil fuels being burned, the deforestation, concrete jungles, etc.  So it’s warming up faster/more than normal.  What do you suppose will happen?  I think it simply means we will hit the next ice age sooner rather than later. 

 

I think the earth is an amazing ecosphere, capable of swinging from cold to warm in order to preserve itself in such a manner that life is possible.  But that might mean a period of years where life ISN’T possible in order to reset itself.  We may very well go the way of the dinosaurs.  But it’s not so much that we are causing that to happen as much as we are speeding up the process.  Just a theory.

I think the overall climate cycle of the earth may be a lot more complicated than these scientists can really understand.  If they think they can somehow control or even fully understand  the overall global climate, the effects of natural events, the perturbations of the orbit around our star, and other events that may occur, may be more than they can comprehend.  What makes me listen is that every time a natural event happens, it is now blamed on AGW, like these events have never happened before.

I believe you are correct.  When things like volcanoes, the super-heated lakes I mentioned, solar flares, etc. are constantly making changes, combined with the orbit around the sun and our proximity thereunto (or our increased distance from such)... there are far too many things to consider.

 

On top of that, you have to realize that those orbits around the sun, that change from time to time, well the effects takes YEARS to reach the earth, right?  So what we are feeling today happened what, a hundred light years ago?  Even before we existed.

This comment is very similar to something you said in another thread, where you asked sarcastically what should we do, ban all guns? This leads to conclude that you aren't interested finding solutions or just refuse to admit there even is a problem. Anyway, the ideal balance in the case of global climate change would be to attempt to limit carbon emissions to a point where they are no longer negatively effecting the Earth's climate and helping the planet to return to pre industrial global temperatures, failing that we should at least be attempting to reduce carbon emissions increases to where the planet has more time to adapt to climate change, and some of the worst effects of climate change can be ameliorated.

What are you talking about?  The Earth and the sun are 92 million miles or 0.00001581 light years apart.

Ok, the sun is closer AND quicker.  I was speaking in general about the systems out there that can affect us.  Yes, it takes minutes for heat to get from the sun to the earth.

 

My point still stands that things such as solar flares, and cosmic activity, as well as geothermal events on earth that we have zero control over play a larger part on the climate than we as humans do.

You are korek.  But the farther the distance, the longer it takes things to be felt here that happen out there.

Whether it takes 8.6 minutes for radiant energy to come from the sun to earth or 8.6 months, the sun from eons ago is not creating warming or cooling in our atmosphere.
