Crossing the Canadian Boarder

My fiancee is from Canada and is coming to visit. She has crossed into the US many times, but this is the first time since our K-1 has been formally received by USCIS.

Do we say we are engaged? Or just visiting as boyfriend/girlfriend (as we have been doing up to this point)? Not trying to deceive, just trying to cross the boarder without a hassle.

Thank you very much!

Just tell the truth.

If you are engaged, you would say "fiance"...if not, you wouldn't.

Most likely, they will know at the border if any immigration benefit has been applied for with her as the beneficiary, once they run her passport.

Much more of a "hassle" if they catch her in an untruth, to put it mildly.

And don't elaborate - just answer the questions as asked - purpose of visit is simply to see boyfriend/fiance. If they want to know more, they'll ask - if they don't, she doesn't need to explain anything further about getting married or K-1. And most of the time, they won't care - it's just another visit.

I always think that's a good thing - if CBP can see that you've got a K-1 in the pipeline, they're also aware that you're invested in doing things properly.

I went to visit my fiance to USA two months ago and in the border they did not ask me nothing , but I think the best is always say the true. That was my 6 visit to USA and my 2nd visit to my fiance

I am from Canada and visited over half a dozen times between filing and getting my K1.

I visited while the petition was pending, while it was accepted, after we received NOA1, after we received NOA2, and even after it had transferred to the NVC, etc..

Every time I visited, I simply told them that I was in a relationship and didn't really elaborate. On ONE occasion I told them that I had a fiance and they didn't bat an eye, they simply asked to see return tickets on each occasion and I was good to go.

Obviously this is CBP-personnel dependent, but you should be fine no matter what you say.

Never had to bring any evidence to support my ties to Canada. Maybe I was lucky. :P

I've gone over by both air and driving a few times since the application, and have not had issue at all. When they ask where I am going, I always tell them I am visiting my partner, they ask for how long and where I work. I answer honestly and they wave me through and tell me to h ave a nice visit.

Never an issue
