i have a funny story about the word "inshallah" (DISCLAIMER : of course its probably just funny to me  )

i am soooooo time aware. i am crazy early for most everything i do, and when i am rushing around trying to get things in order, stressing about being late or pushing hubby to be on time - enters in "inshallah". ARRRRRG. hubby hardly ever ever ever says that. he only says it because when i am stressing it lightens the mood. his "inshallah" usually follows with me saying *dont pull that ####### on me! WE are getting there!

its probably just funny to us since we are an agnostic/atheist couple and being on time (or whatever the sitch may be) is up to us.

my husband says it every two seconds. I used to while I was with him but I got lazy about it. Now I'm getting better about it and it really makes me stop and think how human I am.

That's pretty funny though. lol

I'm just wondering why you feel that it is necessary to write ALLAH when you are writing in English and Allah means God?

I don't know, generally, but often here it seems to be a new convert signaling thing, like using random Arabic phrases to mean "god willing" and "praise be to god", or the whole hijab decision, which sometimes seems like one part finding one's way in a new faith and one part signalling/dressing up.

For me I kind of use both, but using Allah or insha Allah or Alhumdulilah is just second nature when you pray five times a day and are saying it over and over and over. Just kind of gets drilled in your head, you know?

iranians pray in arabic all day long, but are still using their native language when they say things like khuda hafiz. this is just more of the typical "i'm a new revert, i'm insecure, i need the attention of being 'different' " type of nonsense.

That's so strange to think that since Henia who posts here every now and then always says it. She's been a muslim for quite some time. I know many others who have been a muslim for well over 5 + years and they say it a lot. I guess it depends on where you are at spiritually.

You are making my day!

That's really sad to hear.

Since when is honesty sad to hear? I respect anyone who isn't afraid to speak their mind. Even if that doesn't come off as kittens and lollypops.

I guess its sad to say that someone who is being derogatory towards others makes your day. Just my opinion. I just never thought you were like that.

i should make the distinction though, that if one is using those phrases amongst others who are all muslim, and know what the bloody hell you're on about when you say them, then it's a little more palatable. but if you're just using them around random people who don't know what you're saying or why, then it just looks pompous and rude.

I didn't find it derogatory. Do you know how many new reverts I have met who all of a sudden take up arms against everything American and start to change themselves in order to please a man and make themselves feel "special" and "different"? All of a sudden everyone is against them because they are Muslim, yada yada yada. I was once one of those girls back in the day. I'm ashamed of that. Women can lie to themselves all they want but they know down deep when they're doing these types of things. I don't think effortless was necessarily talking about you per se but new reverts in general.

Yeah.. I find all of this funny.. cause EVERYONE i know says it all the time - my boss, co workers, friends And family.. My husband especially - He'll even correct me if I dont say it after everything...

So why the cutting down on the Convert thing??? I think it is good Enthusiasm..

and one of the best examples is in Sura Al - Baqara Ayet 152

Then do ye remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and reject not Faith.

Not cutting down converts but you have to realize the number of women converting simply out of faith in Islam is tiny. Most of them are doing it for the all mighty ####### and a pat on the head by their man. Just count the number of women doing it immediately after meeting a Muslim man. How many of these women knew jack shet about Islam before this man came along?

henia is another prime example of exactly what i am talking about. unfortunately it typically has nothing to do with spirituality, and everything to do with craving attention. last i checked, this is typically an english language forum. deviations from english are noticed, and in these kinds of examples, the motivations behind them are just too blatantly obvious to ignore. in your posts, you give off all the signals, and say all the right things that denotes you as one of those types. if you are not, i apologise, but the things you write just seem to put out those kinds of clues.
