The AOS + biometrics fee can be combined into 1 check of $1225.

  1. Either "K" is fine, or write in the "1" or whole entry as desired. The I-485 is reviewed by hand so as long as they can read it, it's fine.
  2. K Visa Holder
  3. No....245(i) is a very limited case that almost nobody qualifies for anymore (you have to had been in the US as of almost 2 decades ago now).
  4. My wife answered "No" as a K-1 is not an immigrant visa.
  5. My wife used English, but I'll defer on if this is what most people do or not.
  6. My wife put her 2 most recent physical addresses for #5-8, then the other addresses she lived at for at least 1 year or longer, per the instructions. It says ""if not already listed above", so we didn't list the address we named in #7-8.
  7. Yes.
  8. Yes. Better to disclose it and explain it if asked than to not disclose it and think you're hiding it. Read the questions literally and answer them honestly and completely.
  9. Yes.

@geowrian thank you!! I am just seeing your answers now - so helpful. :)

May I also add, what kind of information did you provide for shared evidence proof? Evidence like photos, messages, calls, bank accts, etc?

Thanks!

I entered the US with a K-1 visa, and we only lived together for a little bit over two months before filing AOS so I did not have a lot of evidence. I sent very simple stuff, really. Keep in mind though that most K-1 entrants do not send any evidence and they are approved just fine. Below is what I sent, we did not even have a joint bank account at the time, I mostly wanted to show that we got married and were living at the same address basically.

    • Wedding day photos
    • Photos and receipts from the day intention of marriage was filed
    • Fee receipts from City Hall and wedding appointment document
    • Thank you card from friends
    • TD bank letters to the address of shared residence
    • Amazon household account sharing Prime benefits

@geowrian answered all your other questions wonderfully, I would heed his advice if I were you.

Wonderful, thank you  @cyanmavi.

I now have questions about the I-131, and am slightly confused on how to fill this out. We don't have any intended dates of travel, but are filing this form in case of emergencies. Can I ask if you had a similar issue when filling out this form?

Thanks

I actually had the exact issue, I wanted the AP just in case. I checked it now and saw that I left part 3 completely blank because I did not have any dates in mind and you cannot enter any words to explain yourself. For part 7 though, I attached a supplement that looked like this:

Form I-131 Supplement Part 7

APPLICATION FOR TRAVEL DOCUMENT I-131 for:

NAME LASTNAME

A# XXX-XXX-XXX

CO-FILING I-131 with I-485, Adjustment of Status Application

Date Entered the US: XX/XX/2017

Date Married: XX/XX/2017

Date Filed for Adjustment of Status: XX/XX/2017

I have not at any time accrued 180 continuous days of unlawful presence within the United States.

Description of Travel:

I plan to visit family and friends in Turkey.

I will be staying at the address:

MY PARENTS' ADDRESS IN TURKEY

PRINT NAME                                            Signature                                       Date

I am also attaching it here as a blank document, which I believe I found on this website somewhere.

Good luck with everything!

Thank you! This is so helpful.

I have another question (hoping to submit tomorrow, so there are many!) My husband signed his forms in blue ink, but all the instructions say type or print in black ink. Do you think this is an issue?

Thank you!

Thank you!

It's not ideal, since they do ask for black ink, but I don't think it would be an issue.

Great thank you for your help!

Finally I have a question about using a joint  sponsor. I currently make enough to serve as the sole sponsor for the Form I864, but in previous years I was in grad school and making less. I wanted to use my father as a joint sponsor on the form I864. Because he is my father, do we need to do a form i864a contract between sponsor and household member? I don't intend to use him for support, however, I thought it would be important to show that I've had support for the last three years.

Now I am confused as to how I should fill our the form I864 and if I need to fill out a I864a?

Thank you, apologies for all of the questions!

Sorry it's taking me so long to answer your question. My husband was in the same boat actually, he was in grad school in previous years and only making enough for sponsorship this last year and this year. It was not a problem, we did not need a joint sponsor. So I don't know about joint sponsors.

Hey guys!  Me again!  I'm hoping to get this all done today so I'm frantically double and triple checking my work.  Can anyone answer the following:

-Where do I find the A number?  It asks for it all over every form, but always says "if any"  FYI, we are K1 and my husband arrived in the US on 11/21 so we haven't done anything except get married and get a SSN.

-What about a USCIS ELIS number?

-For the Application for Travel Document, which box do I check?  I have heard this document referred to as Advanced Parole, but it looks like that is it's own box completely.  I'm stuck between 1a which is "I a a permanent resident or conditional resident of the United States and am applying fr a reentry permit" and noxx 1d which is "I am applying for advanced parole to allow me to return to the US after temporary foreign travel"

thanks again!

The A number (Alien number) is on the K-1 visa posted on your husband's passport and on the I-797 NOA receipts and approval for the I-129F petition.

You don't need an USCIS ELIS number.

It is the Advanced Parole. I don't know what question exactly you are talking about. You should check c(9) if available as to indicate that you are filing AP as part of a pending AOS.

If it is the second question you are referring to, I checked my file and I put down "1d which is "I am applying for advanced parole to allow me to return to the US after temporary foreign travel"  He is not yet a permanent conditional resident.

Thanks, but I think I'm even more confused... The only number on the I-797 and the Visa page of his passport that is the same number is the WAC number.  There is a number on the I-797 that says: Beneficiary Axxx xxx xxx and right underneath that is his name, but it's not on his passport

I just checked my approval, the I-797, and yes, that is his A(lien) number.

On the visa, it is written right next to the picture, on the bottom left, under Annotation. If it is not there, don't worry, since you already found it on the I-797.
