Waiver if removed from the U.S. based on INA Section 212 (A) (6) (A) (i)

Hi. I have a friend who is a U.S. citizen, working in the U.S. and over 21 who would like to petition her parents. The issue is the father was deported from the U.S. back in 2000 based on INA Section 212 (A) (6) (A) (i). They are not certain what type of ban he received (10 years) or lifetime. Does anyone know where to further investigate if he would be eligible to return to the U.S., if the petition for his green card would be denied due to his deportation 17 years ago or if there is a waiver that would apply under this category?

 

Any advice or direction would be highly appreciated.
