Delays - Please be advised that it takes upwards of 3 months to secure a Brunei Police Clearance (outside Brunei). I would suggest that you take the following actions, early in the process:

1)  As soon as you are approved by Immigration and begin the Visa Process, complete the DS-260 online. List Brunei or any other country in which the applicant lived for more than a year. Completing this form generates the required U.S. Embassy request letter that you must present as part of you Brunei Certificate of Good Conduct (Police Clearance), application packet.

2) We found that once the application is completed at a Brunei Embassy, it is sent to "protocol" in Brunei, then onwards to the Brunei Police, then back to "protocol." It took about a month for the police to receive and process the clearance, but almost two more months to go back through "protocol" and be forwarded to the Brunei Embassy.

We hope that this information will assist you and help accelerate a long and frustrating part of the process!

In my opinion, this was the hardest part of our IR-1 Visa process.
