“POLICE REPORT: Each applicant aged 16 years and older must submit a police certificate that includes information regarding the applicant including all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s) and the disposition of each case(s). (A) Indian citizens residing in India for six months or more since turning 16 years of age must present Indian police clearance certificates from both their district police station and the local area passport office. Applicants whose passports were issued within six months of the visa interview may present just the passport office certificate. These certificates are valid for one year from the date of issuance.”

Copied from another post by ELW : "When my guy tried to get a PCC from Hyderabad passport office, they told him to return to the office that issued the passport. That was Visakhapatnam so he went there and got the PCC. (The passport was only 7 months old.) Now he is again trying to get the PCC from a local police station in Hyd (because he has lived there last 2 years), they told him to go to the Commisioner of Police office and be ready with Rs 1,200 ohmy.gif and he will get the PCC very quickly.

However I know India is a country that ADJUSTS so maybe you should just go ahead and try to get the PCC from the local passport office, and see what they say."

Another Indian post "

(1) Walk into the local police station (one that covers the area where you live) and request "Police Clearance Certificate". You will need (i) 2-Passport Size Pictures (white background - as US Embassy prefers) and (ii) your passport and driving license. Answers any questions that they might have. In Gujarat, we received the same without paying anything extra except legitimate processing fees, in 2 days.

(2) Once you receive Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from your local police station, find out hours of operation for your Regional Passport Office. Go to Regional Passport Office, fill out application form for "Police/Passport Clearance Certificate", provide them Rs. 300 fees, 2 more Passport size pictures, your original passport and 2-photocopies of Passport, Original Packet-3 cover letter from US Consulate, along with the Local Police station clearance certificate. **We received the "Passport Clearance Certificate" within 30 minutes of application. I don't know about Mumbai.

Below is a link as far as what you will need for Mumbai Regional Passport Office. You can also download the form from the link below and fill it out before hand.

Soni,

My wife is from gujarat, and she just went and got her police cleareance certificate from the local police station in Rajkot, and she has also gone to Ahemdabad to get the passport cleareance.

I'm not sure what the format was like, but when she went to the local police and the passport office, she took her interview letter, and said she needs the cleareance certificates. I think the police stations will know exactly what is needed on them.

It was fairly easy to get the certificates. The local rajkot one took approx 4 days, and the passport one, was supposed to be mailed by this saturday, but she has not received it yet.

One thing for sure, at least for us, was that my wife needed the interview letter.

Based on your timeline, it's seems you have a long way to go before you get to that stage. No need to worry about it just yet!

Good luck

In case of my wife following was the process: (around Surat, Gujarat)

1. Two PC's were needed: Clearence from passport office and clearence from local police

2. Passport office process I am do not know since agent took care of it.

3. Local police I went with my wife, following happens

I gave them an application (hand written saying what do you need and why, along with supporting docs such as birth cert, marrige cert, ration card copy, and appointment letter copy. They need two or three days to process, my wife received post card to her village saying go to the police station during some hours. Then she and two witnesses sign the application. She received her clearence next day at the office.

Few tips that I think will help:

1. Each district has different process so get an agent Rs.2000 is a small amount for assurance.

2. Also use any people who has contact with gov't agancy because process goes very smooth if someone who knows police officers and municiple workers is along your side.

3. Be prepare to tip them, in my case Rs.400.

I-130 process:

02/28/06 I130 sent to VSC

03/10/06 NOA 1

06/12/06 Touch (address change)
