Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS California Service Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number WAC189*******. With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit www.uscis.gov where you can check the status of your case using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status.

we just received that email the other day and to it's only a confirmation that they have received our case, am I right? but when I search about it, it says that I-797 is an approval of the case. So what is this actually? and after receiving this, what other forms or updates should we be expecting? Are we just waiting for either approval or denial?

This is just confirmation that your case has been received and sent to California.

USCIS uses I-797 forms to send all sorts of communication to petitioners - receipt notices, approvals, denials, etc.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

So what are we waiting for next? I mean, would the next email or notification would be whether we get denied or approved?

Yes and before approval/denial notice , USCIS may require more evidence from you so they might send your petitioner a RFE (request for evidence) . You don't have to worry about RFE if you have sent alllllll the required documents with I-129F petition. Good Luck

Normally, when could an RFE occur? like if we filed and they received them by Oct. 10, how many weeks from that time should i be expecting an RFE assuming i forgot something.

Normally it can be anytime from NOA1 to your approval notice. The normal processing time for I-129F is about 2-4 months but personal experience is we got RFE within one month of filing I-129F..in other words 2 weeks after NOA1
