Help! My wife, who is a Russian Citizen living in Russia, has been trying to reschedule her interview and her sons (my stepson) with the US Embassy in Moscow. We have been married more than 2 years and I am an American Citizen. Originally we had an appointment for her and for our son to be interviewed together on October 12. But she had to cancel that and as we try to reschedule, nothing is opening. We have been trying for several weeks to find an opening but nothing comes up. We are desperate since we have been apart for over 2 years. What can we do? I am an American Citizen and while I do not want to sound arrogant, I thought that would count for something in this process. Advice please?

Many (most?) of the immigrant visa cases in Russia involve a US citizen.  With the Russian-goverment required reduction in US Embassy personnel, the number of visa appointments has been fairly drastically reduced.  Since IV appointments are scheduled a month or more in advance, it will likely take a while to find an opening.

I don't know what you mean? Everyone applying for an IR-1 is the spouse of a US citizen. The majority of people applying for immigrant visas are family members of USCs.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

My bad. It's late here and I am new so just didn't want to appear like i was pushing my American Citizenship status. Forget I said it. Thanks for the wake up call.

Thanks. I knew that. Was hoping someone had an idea on how to push it forward better. Just keep trying I guess. Thanks again for taking the time to answer. Cheers.

If you've been married for "more than two years" and have been apart for "over 2 years" I'm guessing you havent seen each other since you got married? She will likely get a lot of questions about this. If it was work related I would suggest providing her with a letter from your employer about why you have not been able to leave for that length of time.

All you can do is keep trying.  My advice to OTHERS is to NEVER even think about missing a visa interview or any appointment related to US Immigration unless it is absolutely unavoidable.  By that I don't mean unavoidable because of lack of planning on your part.  You will NEVER like the length of delay you experience.
