Entering the u s is not a problem. She was there before and don't think it's any big deal.

Oh, really? Does she already have her visa to enter? Does she understand that having a visa does not guarantee any entry to the country at her POE? The fact that she was in the US does NOT grant any benefits while getting new visa.

You might look into adding your spouse to your health insurance; my husband had no problem doing so after we married [I was not living in the US then] - open enrolment is coming up.

Otherwise, look at local maternity board (such as http://www.mothering.com/forum/17890-united-states/ ) to find out local birth centers, doctors and midwives offering prepayment discounts and such.

So, he is not replying about the cost/price at all, so my guess is he just wants to have the baby and him/her stay in the us regardless of the price involved.

Well, it's not going to happen. They will deny her at POE.

For an uncomplicated birth be prepared to pay at least $20,000. I assume you will shop around and make arrangements prior to her coming as it is not good for her or the baby to just show up at a hospital when she is in labor.

As to how you will work the logistics of leaving the US in time I don't know but it is something you need to think about. She will have to obtain the baby's birth certificate and passport before the baby can leave the US. That takes time, sometimes months.

Her brother is in d u s. Intend leaving at 24weeks with so she can get a doctor and get some checks before delivery. Yea I know it takes some time before the babies documents comes out, that won't b a problem. Just trying to compare cost of various states.

You are choosing cost of care over quality of care?.........there are no standard costs in health care, unless you are covered by an insurance policy.  Then, the costs are usually calculated by the Medicare/Medicaid rates.........but that all goes out the window for a private pay......which you are......

U haven't said anything useful as regards my request. Mind u , no such intention to stay in d us. If I don't have d money to pay then I won't be asking to compare price.

You can choose whatever you want to choose but you can't change the fact. You guys must either pay for that birth or stay home.

The US systems assumes that a faceless insurance company is picking up the bill for a child being born, hence the bill is higher than a single couple would ever want to face.   The way the bill breaks down there are many things you pay for.  The doctor is a separate contract.  Then the hospital will hit you with a fee for the room , the nurses, the use of a different delivery room if you use one , even the pain pills ( by the pill )  so no one can give you an exact number.  Having a child here will not give the parents any right to stay , and before the child is old enough to petition parents you can be assured that class of visa will be as dead as the DV lottery is for Nigeria.  There is also a high chance that the mother will be turned away.   per a recent parenting mag the cost of a perfect birth is $8802.  But few births in the US are perfect.

Thank u . the purpose is not for d parents to stay in d u s and I am going to bear d cost of d delivery, hence the comparison of price

As others have mentioned it's not illegal. CBP can refuse entry if they think someone is likely to use social services programs (ie, Medicaid), did not declare intent to give birth in the U.S. during their visa interview (this mainly relates to Chinese people), or, like any other visitor, if they think the person is lying about what they intend to do in the U.S.

It's also free - Medicaid will pay all the costs. When we find out someone has used medicaid to pay for their child's birth (and we do have ways of getting this info) it will basically become impossible for them to get a tourist visa again. It's not a reason to revoke a visa but we have lots of discretion to refuse people if we think they're likely to abuse their visitor status again. They have to wait until the kid turns 21 and then they can immigrate as an IR5.

Chinese applicants have been known to show up at their visa interviews with wads of $100 bills to show that they will pay their hospital bills.

I personally continue to support birthright citizenship, even with all of the abuse of this provision you see working in a consulate (rich families with no connection whatsoever to the U.S. will make their kids dual citizens and then demand the same level of attention we give to a U.S. traveler in an emergency). Congress could easily solve this problem by amending the Immigration and Nationality Act - make anyone that has entered on a tourist visa and given birth to a child permanently ineligible for an immigrant or nonimmigrant visa (with a waiver available if they can show there was an actual medical need). The State Department can easily match passport application information to visa records to get that info.

Thank u very much. Very helpful I must say. I intend paying for the bills that's y I am asking of price and to know if the payment would be made while in Nigeria but some replies seem so out of place.
