Hi all

First I would like to thank you all as you really helped me during my GC journey. Now, here is where I currently stand and was wondering if anyone faced the same or have any advice that can help me.

I came to the US with K1 visa and got married then filed all papers accordingly (I485 ... etc) that was during the first week of March 2017, I recently received the approval notice on my I485 on the 7th of Sep. 2017, but it had a typo in my first name, I contacted USCIS right away (as the approval notice requested me to check for any error in information and contact them if needed), the USCIS open a ticket and confirmed me that all will be sorted.

after three weeks (on 09.21), I noticed my case was updated and shows that "Name was updated" then I received a notice by Mail which confirms that change was completed. on 10.05.2017, I received another approval notice with the same old typo !!! then I contacted them once again the day after to ask them to fix it. USCIS raised another ticket but this one was closed after one day. Today I received in the mail that I would need to schedule an appointment with the USCIS office to solve this issue. BUT I also received today the GC with the same error!!

Now what do you recommend me to do in here, I am currently looking at the following options:

1- Schedule appointment with the USCIS and try to get my passport stamped with the GC (i551 stamp).

2- Contact the USCIS Ombudsman to tell them about my case.

I have been in this process since August last year, I am sure you share the same feeling and pressure like me (if not worse). I just want to finish this topic and move on.

Thank you for your help

Make an infopass appointment and see an officer to sort it out face to face. No need for ombudsman for something such as a name typo. Just my opinion.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Thank you for your reply, going through the GC replacement will take up to one year (according to USCIS current timeline), do you think the face to face meeting with the USCIS officer will make the process faster in getting the replacement?

Totally agree with you, but the mean problem is not from my side. They keep saying it is fixed now and in fact, it is Not!

I think I will schedule the appointment and try to get my passport stamped.

Thank you for your feedback, will let you know if anything interested happened.

File an I-90. There is no fee given that the cause is a USCIS error. As you say, it will take around a year to receive your corrected replacement.

Just curious; why would it take a year just to fix an already approved status?

Your status isn't the issue, only the proof of it (the card).

And the answer is the same as why there is a waiting period for any form you file with USCIS: the large number of people who have filed before you, and the limited number of adjudicators available.

@csk2b1 The current waiting time to replace a card is one year as there are many people in front of me who are currently waiting.

Now my follow up questions to all, I was reading about the I551 stamp and its requirements. one of them is to apply to the i90 in advance and receive the NOA then I can go to the USCIS. Do you know if this is "a must have" or can they skip it since it was their fault in the first place?

No, most field offices seem to want to see an I-90 receipt before they will give you an I-551 passport stamp.

Just to keep you updated on the process, I went to the USCIS and met a really nice lady. She stamped my passport with the one year GC and gave me the I90 form to fill in and send it accordingly. The challenging part in the process was to find an appointment through InfoPass so make sure you have that sorted out in advance as they won't let anyone without an appointment in the building.

candid advise ,,, go and get your passport signed and send back the card that has errors back with the proper form..... i had the same issue with mine and it took uscis exactly one year to send me another card.   Better get to it now.

Best of luck
