Hi,

I'm on a B1/B2 visa and will be travelling to NYC over thanksgiving. I currently live in Toronto so is it possible to fly from there to LGA airport or do I need to land in JFK?
Thanks

Either one is good----NYC is kinda in the middle between both airports.  I find LaGuardia a nicer airport, personally.  When I say nice, I mean navigational-wise, not anything else lol.  Parking is better at LaGuardia too, I think!

Thanks. I meant specifically in terms of my first point of entry to the US. I remember hearing there are a handful of US airports you should land into when it's you first time every visiting the US, or is that not true?

Coming from Toronto, your port of entry will actually be Toronto Pearson itself. Most Canadian airports have pre-clearance so you'll do customs and immigration before you get on the plane. After that it doesn't matter where you fly to - LGA and JFK are equally horrible places to land.

broppy is correct.  Customs and Immigration at JFK vs. LGA is irrelevant.  Coming from Toronto you will pre-clear in Toronto.

Good luck

I hear a lot about West Jet airlines---are they cheaper?  I always had a slight bias towards Air Canada, I think because it was the first ever plane I ever flew on as a child---and my parents continued to buy only Air Canada.  Now as an adult it's the first place I go for travel needs...off season, I think the cheapest I got with them was $87.00 from NY to Toronto one-way.

Definitely agree. Family lives in Ottawa, so I'm always flying through Toronto, and I usually just go with the cheapest flights. But WestJet is fantastic! Flying into LaGuardia pretty much sucks all the time, but they're completely tearing the place up now, so be warned, especially if you're trying to get out of the airport by car.

Also, Porter only flies into Newark, but I LOVE them -- almost makes it worth it trying to get from Newark into the city. Super comfortable, great fares, and all the free snacks and soda at Billy Bishop are awesome. Not to mention the proximity to downtown Toronto makes it really convenient on the Canadian end. Only thing with Porter is that Billy Bishop doesn't have preclearance, so your POE would be Newark.

Hello, you can land at both. Last time I booked a flight a week ago, I noted 13 flights a day on Delta alone into LaGuardia. Both LGA and JFK are [bad] airports . All three Newark, LGA and JFK are run by the Port Authority of NY/NJ...a political organization with no competition..

Immigration is at Toronto YYZ not in New York..which brings another thing...go early to the Airport...depending on the times there are long lines and lets say no so sunny officials there....

Parking? LGA is one of the most expensive however, http://way.com has great rates of $8.99 upwards a day at Hotels around the place which use their lots to make extra $$!!
