When making a sandwich is a crime against feminism

WHEN young Sydney mother Maddie asked her closed Facebook group of 26,186 mothers for some tasty alternatives to sandwiches for her husband’s lunches, she wasn’t expecting the backlash.

“I would love to hear what other mums make their hubbies for lunch and snacks throughout the work day,” she posted on Tuesday. “We are getting over sandwiches.”

You would think she’d asked for a hemlock recipe, judging by the torrent of scolding which erupted.

She was nothing but a “slave” and a “1950s housewife”.

She was “weird” and no one in their right mind or a “pink fit” would do something so demeaning as make their husband lunch. Let alone snacks.

“Your husband is a grown up and you’re not his mother”, wrote one member of the North Shore Mums Facebook group.

“My husband can make his own damn lunch.”

“I make my husband the same thing he makes me. Nothing!!”

“Stuff that, hubby is a grown man. I already do his laundry and keep his children alive.”

“Our advice is to stop making his lunches.”

“My role is childcare during working hours and that’s it.”

“He’s lucky if I decide to make dinner some nights”.

“I was married for twenty years and my favourite packed lunch for my husband was called a Get it Yourself with a side order of I’m not your mother.”

“Nope, I didn’t sign up for that at the altar. But in the spirit of being helpful… pickled onion stuffed in mandarins.”

Leader of the attack pack was Polly Dunning, daughter of professional feminist Jane Caro, and mother of a toddler about whom she infamously wrote last year, recounting her horror at finding out she was pregnant with a boy: “I felt sick at the thought of something male growing inside me.”

I'm all for woman's rights and the right for them to join the workforce. I am also for a woman's right to decide she wants to stay home and take care of her family. It is just as shameful that a woman would be attacked for making that decision as it is to attack a woman for choosing to work like the militant "feminists" are guilty of a lot of the time.

The reactions from that article are the reason why I am so violently opposed to modern feminism. 

 

I was brought up understanding that true feminism was women supporting other women and their right to equality in all areas of their life - from the job they want to do, to their ability to access education, what to do with their body in regards to children/no children,  and so on.  It seems that modern militant feminism is all about tearing other women down for not choosing what others do. 

 

It takes literally nothing away from me as a woman to make my partner lunch during the times we get to be in the same place.  We get up at the same time and while he's in the shower; it takes me about 3 minutes while my bagel is heating up to make his lunch & snacks - a sandwich, some carrot sticks and hummus, wrapped up leftovers from the night before or whatever.  

Call me crazy, but it seems like the adult thing to do that if one party in a relationship stays at home full time or works less, that one picks up more of the "home" duties - be it cooking, cleaning, child care, general home maintenance or preparing the other person's lunch.   But maybe that just makes me a 1950's housewife.... (excuse me while I get my poodle skirt and pearls out)

And THAT is why you marry a for-ner.  If she fails to make lunch, or dinner is late, ye simply have her deported.  No time to waste on laziness.

A) Good wives never serve hummus.

 

2) While the skirt is fine, skip the pearls and don 👠 👠 as you are preparing to make his lunch.

Kudos for the extra effort and love,  but no.  Guacamole please.

 

I kid, I kid.  Hummus is ok, but barely.  I try it about once a year to see if anything changes, but I'm not a fan.  Maybe I'll have my DW make some, and spice it up with Thai peppers.

I do like Guac, but avocados are insanely expensive here, and not much better in WI! 

 

My partner is super picky about food. I am trying really hard to ease him into new things, but it's an ongoing process.

Basically, they kinda sound like my x-wife now that I think about it(I have worked hard to forget about our marriage). She was good for nothing and only worked for a total of 1 month the whole 4 years we were married. She just stayed home all the time and didn't clean the house at all.

Same here in CA as well. The larger avocados were going upwards of almost $2 per a month ago at the local Vons, and that's not even the organics. But Home Foods lowered their prices and luckily Vons did as well, so now their still maybe $1.5 per. Don't even mention going to Walmart for the cheap ones that are so small that they look like a cutie orange. 

 

I am the same way with my wife as well. I like to ease her into different foods because I love finding new and exciting foods, and she like "OMG what's that".
