HI everyone. My fiance sent me some of his financial docs and I'd like to check if it's fine. He sent the w2 for for years 2015 and 2016 and 1040 form for year 2015 only (p.s. he pays all the taxes). Do we need the 1040 form for year 2016 as well or w2 for for that year is enough? thank you

Preferably last 3 years so including 2016. A suggestion, he should download his tax return transcripts from the IRS website and email them to you. You can then print them at home or at a local shop. Tax return transcripts are better because they consist all information on what he made, claimed for deductibles, taxes paid or owed etc.

Idk if Russia wants 1 year or 3 years of transcripts  (or 1040 + w2 +1099 etc.) but just a W2 is an incomplete return for any year - so not enough.

I haven't heard of the 1099 form. What is it?

Okay, I got it, thank you!

It's what you get for example from your bank - has interest and such on it. If he is sending you copy of a 1040 instead of a transcript he needs to also send you a copy of all that was filed with that 1040 for it to be a complete return (such as 1099) - if he downloads the transcript instead from irs site and emails to you it contains ALL info needed.
