Ajdustment of Status Interview

Hi guys we are finally on the happier side of the immigration system... married and living in the same place!!!

My husband has is biometrics appointment yesterday and I asked the agent how interviews work. I told him I heard it was a 50/50 shot that we would get chosen for an interview but he informed me that all adjustment of status apps must go through an interview. Is this true? I was really hoping we would just get the green card sent to us.

He is wrong. For K1's it's about a 50/50 (or so they say) to get interview. All other AOS categories have interviews.

I got mine without.

Someone posted a thread a month ago or so after attending some kind of presentation by USCIS I think. He/she spoke to a USCIS personnel and it's been said that everyone will be subjected to interview, not sure how soon is the enforcement of such "rule". Guess with the Trump Administration, they are probably working hard towards weeding out those who are considered not having a bonafide relationship for a "family based/sponsored" green card. Either way, you guys should be prepared for a potential green card interview. All the best!

Ps: I wish I could find the link to the other forum post I'm talking about. Too many bookmarks on my phone and difficult to plough through :jest:

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

They have imposed more interviews - added this month - didn't affect K1's and there is no such policy mentioned yet.

K1's already had a very recent interview at the overseas consulate of the same type as a spouse.

So far all is the same.

Only issue is more interviews mean even longer wait times for all.

I can't see a reasonable explanation for extending K1's to an all interview group. They already interview "red flag" cases plus random for quotas.

Ofc sharing is caring 😂😂

There's just so many rumors going about due to the chaos in this administration - we already new b4 this that USCIS employees rarely know things,  but like to act like it... I was told extremely erroneous things at an infopass - by an officer that said "I've worked as an immigration officer for 20 years, I know this" yet he was wrong,  but I just nodded and smiled.. so until it's in printing on a USCIS official bulletin I choose not to listen :D

Yeah, even their CS line is called the misinformation line :jest: It would be great if they could get things in printing. But as we know, even when things are in printing, a lot of officers might still get things wrong because they work based on their own (mis)interpretation :bonk:

Best thing to do is get the household set up, enjoy your time together, and don't worry about the interview.  We had an interview when interviews were rare.  It was painless.

Work on getting him: On the bank account, the credit cards, the health insurance plan, the car insurance, make him your life insurance beneficiary, add him to your lease (if you are renting), and make sure you have matching drivers licenses.  Normal married stuff.

Our IO:

Dug through a cool photo album my wife made during her few months there, checked our keys to make sure they matched (I was like HUH? Didn't think of that, pretty smart) and made copies of our credit cards that had the same numbers but different names.  We got the email notification that our case was approved that night.  It took about a half hour.  We were terrified too.  Very stressful.  We had no idea what to expect so we had an armful of all kinds of %@$#.  Worse we were the only couple there without a lawyer.  First thing the IO asked me was so are you guys doing OK today and I said "yes until I sat down in a roomful of lawyers" then he said "I'm also a lawyer"....oops.  I was trying to be funny.

Good luck!
