Draft of New HHS Strategic Plan Says Life Begins ‘at Conception’

In 2013 (older data, I realize), there 664,435 will ful abortions.  That same year, there were 8,454 gun homicides. That’s about 79 abortions per each person killed by a gun. 

 

Will this new rule, should it become law, in any way bring these two numbers any closer?

Is it 30  or  is it 50 percent. 20% is a very large margin of error . I really hope that was not a scientific survey. As a self proclaimed  man of science i hope  you would  read stats with that kind of absurd margin, and  raise an eyebrow.

It's an estimate. It is different than giving a number with a wide confidence error (margin of error).

 

No one is claiming that there are "45%" miscarriages with a CI of "10 - 65%". In this case there is just a wide range because it is an estimate based on known pregnancy miscarriage rates and then extrapolated to the period in which most women don't know they are pregnant. It also includes an estimate based on data from women presenting with symptoms of a miscarriage without documentation of pregnancy.

 

Even if we take the low end, 30%, that is still almost a third of our country's population that dies before birth.

 

How many of those are manslaughter I wonder?

How would this bring the numbers closer?

 

If life begins at conception then you will have to stay counting all miscarriages as "abortions".

 

That would be like 700,000-800,000 more abortions.

 

And before you say "well those aren't intentional"....

 

How do we know? We would have to investigate each one and make sure we determine whether negligence caused the death. Since they were all living after all. Even if the woman didn't know she was pregnant.

As we have said life at conception is silly. but how can a miscarriage be an abortion, does not abortion imply a deliberate act?

Well if someone murders someone by accident, isn't it manslaughter?

 

So if a woman inadvertently does something that leads to the death of her 1 week old fetus, even without her knowledge that she is carrying it, isn't she guilty of manslaughter?

 

And they are called spontaneous abortions for a reason. They are still abortions.

Depends, do not know the law in the US, UK law has the offence of Child Destruction, I remember a case where a woman was assaulted and aborted as a result.

Well in that case let's just throw out healthcare, why bother following statistics on lifespan etc...
