Donald Trump Jr. has been tweeting about Weinstein for the better part of the past week.

 

Trump Jr.'s arguments seem to boil down to two things: 1) Weinstein is clearly guilty, given the volume of accusers, and 2) Hollywood and Democrats are too willing to stand up for — or at least too reluctant to criticize — Weinstein.

Both of those arguments, though, could just as easily be applied to his father's own myriad sexual harassment allegations and the Republicans who have stood by him. Eleven women came forward before the 2016 election to accuse Trump of touching them without consent, and although many Republicans initially rebuked Trump, upon his election, the party has stood by him in almost total lock-step. There are plenty of other similarities, too, including Trump and Weinstein both allegedly abusing their public stature, as well as recordings of Trumpand Weinstein talking about sexually harassing women.

Most threads on here are essentially aiming at either making the Left look worse (posted by someone from the Right), or making the Right look worse (posted by someone from the left). There is very little middle ground.

 

This, I think, is a perfect example of where people could actually have a great discussion by throwing politics out the window. This isn't a partisin issue. It isn't "left leaning" men that sexually harass (somewhere on the spectrum...I wouldn't say any form of sexually harassment is "mild" though), and it isn't "right leaning" men. The unfortunate fact is it is men in general. The numbers are worryingly high in terms of how many men do it, and how many women have had to live through it.

 

That shouldn't be about politics.

The opposite should be true.

 

We should expect more from Republicans and Democrats. 

 

If they aren't living up to those expectations, there should be consequences. Not excuses, not "boys will be boys", but actual consequences. On all sides.

 

That is exactly what I was going to say. Hold them responsible, if you do not have a high standard of expectations you will get mediocre and losers.
Didn't the base want Trump to run the country like a business ? Which in itself is silly and doesn't work but that's another thread. In business and politics alike though,
when it comes to expectations vote for those you think exceed or at least meet them or vote them out, do not make excuses. There must be consequences
or the status quo continues. And yes, morals are still needed for role models for the next generation in spite of how many do not care what a prez does in his personal life

or we will deteriorate.

You can't really take that much credit. Most of us are guilty at least some of the time. We all tend to believe that what we think is "normal" (since we believe/think it) and therefore we are in the middle.

 

Essentially we are all in the middle of the road that runs through our own minds. No one actively thinks "Man I am sooooo skewed, I'm just a nut job".

Regardless of  where on the political spectrum one finds one self or how they identify , Middle of the road, Muddy ditch left and Muddy ditch right are pure creative genius, and were invented by me, quite simply because  of my grammatical  skills that are  great and very spectacular.  Everybody on this board, who has been here longer than a week, knew who you were trying to bait me.  You can do the MDL two step all you want, and get your two MDL minions to fly close air support but it was so clear Helen Keller could see it.

And I’ll bear witness to the MDL/MOR creations, back before your time, back when many were also being called RWNJs (most of those who did the calling are gone now, thankfully).  It was NB.  And when I read your post about MOR, my mind went immediately to NB.

 

To settle this matter amicably, I suggest you cough up a few greenbacks to NB via PayPal or Zelle as royalty penance for infractions on his terms.  No rush, but if you could send the money about an hour ago, that would be just swell.

Now to the partisan stuff you and Ebonuwula mentioned... you are both correct.  Sexual harassment knows no parties, nor does corrupt politicking.  Personally, I hate how things seem to be so divided nowadays.  I really don’t think it was so polar a few years ago.  Perhaps social media, and to an extent, MSM, is responsible for this divide.  I don’t really claim either party, but if I were pressed to do so today, I think I would say republican.  I have taken tests online that tell me I am a liberal, though not too far on the left side.  What I find to be true about me is that I agree with some things that liberals espouse, same as some things conservative.  I just believe what I believe in, as we all do, and I don’t believe a vast majority of the things on either side I guess.  

 

Honestly, I would guess most here, and most in life, would come out the same way, if it were closely examined.  Yes, there would be devout party followers on each side, and some who would claim to believe only liberal or only conservative beliefs, but I think those people are rare, and quite possibly on the wacko side anyway.

 

Sometimes it’s fun to argue, personalities get in the way from time to time, but at the end of the day, I am sure most on here are pretty level-headed people who want about the same things out of life.  I know I learn stuff on here that I never would have otherwise, and I think that is the draw for me, even though sometimes I have to take a break from the forum.  I keep coming back, like a moth drawn to the flame.  Some things that get bantered about, I think are downright stupid.  But there are some good discussions, presented in such a way that I learn things I didn’t consider (from my limited POV) from people who are not in the middle of MY road.  Diversity is a good thing, as is discussion.  No one person, party, culture, religion, etc. is always right.  There are more than one or three ways to skin any cat.  

 

Always remember (it is EASY to forget)... when you get passionate about anything, and try to express yourself online, it is easy to come across wrong.  The written word is so much harder to distinguish without the body and vocal language of a personal conversation.

I can't be held responsible for the reputation of someone else. It isn't my fault that when I spreak broadly, your mind goes to a specific person. It also isn't my fault that he specifically thinks of himself when he reads what I wrote. 

 

My intentions were non-specific and broad. Continuing to call me out for it is baiting, and bordering on an attack. I didn't name anyone and I wasn't intending to direct it at anyone specifically. I was making a broad observation of the CEHST forums.
