Medical Hospitalisation Question

I've been hospitalised twice - once in 2011 with a DVT (Warfarin for a year but no further issues) and once in 2016 with gallbladder issues (now removed). Do I need a doctor's report on these for the medical?

Yes, bring a report from the doctor that briefly describes what happened and when. I assume for the removed gall bladder you gave a surgical scar. You will definitely need something to explain that. Even though these are things that will have no impact whatsoever on your visa, it's always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I also had keyhole surgery on my ankle but was in and out in a matter of hours. I assume they won't be at all interested in that? By the way I had keyhole for my gallbladder too but you get 4 scars!!  I've written to my GP surgery and asked if they would do a short report on the DVT and gallbladder - I'll see what they will do. Will probably cost me but I don't mind paying. Also need to sort out shots as I haven't had any since school (many decades/moons ago). Need to go to Boots for flu jab as well.

You may be able to get the shots from the GP - I got mine done there and at no cost to me. That included the flu jab. It see,s to depend on how friendly the GP is.

I would definitely get everything documented. Chances are they won't even ask anything. I have had a brain hemorrhage, stroke, 4 TIAs, have epilepsy and partial paralysis due to the stroke. They weren't interested in any of that. He was more bothered about things like alcohol, drugs, mental health, TB and STDs.

Thanks JFH. I like to be prepared. Just awaiting my divorce decree, then can start the process. No idea what the timelines are going to be but need to sell a house and give 3 months notice to my employer so need to start organising. Going to States at end December for 2 weeks so, if visa submitted in November, I think I need to kick everything off when I get back in January. Looking forward to packing a house into a container!!! Would like to have sold up and resigned by the time the London part kicks off so I can react quickly to that. Plus I can move from Scotland down to Cheltenham (home) and catch up with family before I move to the US, and travel to London more easily. Best regards.
