my kid goes down the block to round up the gang all the time...

 

I went fishing again. In rain. 

While fishing, school nurse calls, the kid developed a rash. 

Wife brought Benadryl to school. 

Kid had half day. 

Cut trip short with 80 lbs of fish. 

Now have 4 stripers in back yard needs cleaning. 

But now gotta go to parent teacher conference...

We got to bed just before Many a.m. this morn, truncated zzz we man.

For the record, we indeed de-dished the warsher* before bedtime, dedicated we man.

 

*Were we to leave this for Mrs. T-B., the stuff would stay in there until the next time she needed to hide dirty stuff when company comes over, ADD she man.  And then, she would wonder, "What's this stuff doing here, huh man?", ADD she man.

     Each of the barely Many times that she has actually run a dish load (which we react alacritously to prevent), she has forgotten the de-dishing part, ADD she man.

it is very easy to feel defeated in this process, we are both stressed and frustrated

but we still have a lot to be grateful for, and I recommend everyone try it at least once.

It is such a great experience. 

When I was in college we had a theater production that had some pastorelas and plays for kids,

and we even went to a jail once. That part was a bit scary  but hey they deserve entertainment too?

Related thought:  I wish I hadn't been so overprotective of the older one when she was young.  I think it made her a fearful person.

Overprotectionism can sometimes be even more harmful than more of the converse, si and sigh ma'am.

My MIL is rushing around today, getting ready for her trip to VA. Had a hairdresser appointment this morning, has the eye doc this afternoon, and a bunch of scripts to pick up at the chemist. She came in with a hiss and a roar an hour ago. She changed purses this morning and didn't have her wallet when she went to pay for her hair. 

 

So, we went through her old purses, her car, her desk, her closets, her coat pockets, her knitting bag, I even went through the rubbish. No wallet. I called the shops she was at yesterday, all of them because she can't remember the order she went to them in. No point in asking where she went last, she doesn't know. No wallet.

 

So she decides to go get a replacement drivers license, report her cards as stolen, and on and on. I told her she might ring the salon back to tell them she was going to come but was delayed.

 

They wanted to know why she went off....without her wallet.

 

She paid for the hairdo, and another new purse, and let all of it behind.

On better news, I'm looking forward to going toy-shopping for the kids in the poorer areas in the  state (Yucatán) 

It is so much fun getting the list with kids names and then surprising them. It really is an amazing experience. 

My husband will join us this time, although he is certainly too skinny to play Santa. Maybe with tons of padding?

Random rant:  People whose children are always in dirty/stained clothes even for special pictures.  Do they not have access to a washing machine* or Shout?    

 

*This is rhetorical since I know they very well do.
