The kid got an 88 on her math test. Im bitterly disappointed at what she got wrong. Especially when we've drilled and drilled on it. She drew 2 rows of 9 when it should have been 9 rows of 2.

15 divided buy 5, her answer was 10.

10 divided by 5, her answer was 50.

Doesn't that sound painful? *ack*  Can't it be trimmed off, or dealt to somehow SAT?

The suture will dissolve, it's trimmed as much as possible already. The eyeball is not painful, it's uncomfortable. The Tylenol helps. The site of the incision is painful...

I'm sure I can come up with ways to steer Trudi's kid straight...

Japan is one option.

Like maybe send her to befriend some gangbangers instead?

Maybe introduce her to come local fooks?

Stretch has a trans-Hillbilly son she could befriend. He's Canadian, so he's weird too...

See? Plenty of ideal solutions to this dilemma...

Yup by the time I was 17 I was a long way from home doing a lot of things my parents would definitely not have approved of 😂

But at 17 I was a whole lot more worldly wise than this group and step daughter is going to come into a large insurance settlement on her 18th birthday and she is agreeing to travel to Morocco and marry a lad she's never spoken to never mind actually met - it's scary how much smaller the world is now

What did you have done?

Hope you're feeling better soon

I can't believe I miss the crazy ape head you had TBone but a black blob just isn't you :(

She should have a financial adviser appointment for the day before with her Grandmother and you guys. She gets s chunk for a car or whatever but the rest gets invested.

There are some wonderful posts a few years back in the MENA sub forum on here with some of the ladies warning against the "not my Ahmed" type of thinking.

Maybe persuade her to study abroad in Scandinavia?  They won't notice if she is weird. ;)  Not that I'd know anything about that.

No matter what she will not believe anything but what he says. You need to find his other fb fishing accounts and that she may believe. My guess is he has her already suckered.

Speaking of stretch, she musta had ta drive all the way to North Carolina to buy shoes...

I probably will. I have never had so much trouble finding shoes until I moved here. Either they are all way to small or the arch is messed up of they fell like I'd be walking on concrete!

Tiger Dad right there.

I don't think I've yet to help the older one with schoolwork or any type of studying this year.  I don't even look at her homework anymore.  On occasion she gets things wrong in math, that's normal.  Gives the teacher a good idea of what to focus on reviewing.

No not tiger dad.

I want my daughter to be just a little better than daddy.

She knows this stuff! That's the disappointment...

I guess I'm used to seeing 100s from her....

<sigh>

I think it is important with math to realize, especially with the shift from rote learning of certain concepts to synthesizing and truly understanding them, is that it isn't really something you can drill.  Sometimes people just need to sit down and think about it, find a way that works for them to remember it or reproduce it.

Plus, an 88 is a fine grade - don't make her afraid to be a little less than perfect, yeah?  Silly errors on math tests is normal.  So is not getting everything right.  I was doing this presentation on vector, real, and complex analysis this week and going back over some of my very old tests (vector analysis is in Calc III, real and complex are after).  Some were above 100, some I missed whole sections because I obviously didn't grasp it in depth enough (those were high 80s).  That is just how it goes.

I've been stuck in a rut for a while.

So now my husband is making me draw him,

15 divided by 5 is absolutely something you can drill in math. As is drawing rows.

Meh, I'd rather think about it conceptually.

What about when she is presented with 15000/5000 or some variation on it, like 90/5 or 120/15?

Of course there's the concept.

But it is something you can drill.

She can do 90/5 in her head.

And probably 15000/5000.

But again, the disappointment is, she knows that stuff. And 3 mistakes is too many out of 24.

It's also, I've worked so hard to pass on my knowledge to her. I make it as fun as I can. Like apple picking, asking her to divide 32 apples between the 4 of us. And she does it, easily...

And for her to drop 3 simple questions like that. It's so disappointing...

She's doing multiple digit division with double digit divisors. She's doing fractions!!

And she gets 15/5 wrong...
