07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Because our school must have like 20 of these days a year and my 8 year old is over it.  This week is Red Ribbon week... highest level of participation on part of 8 year old was not brushing her hair yesterday morning to fulfill "crazy hair" day.

Then there is the added issue that maybe the kids don't have yellow shirts?  Like, my daughter does not own clothes in every color of the rainbow or sports team merchandise.  She was completely disinterested in wearing my Vikings shirt for Minnesota team day that happened a few weeks ago.  There is also Dr. Seuss day and bla bla bla day.

 

I'm sick of the theme days and I'm sure other parents are too.

They decided to just give all the kids orange school shirts because not enough of them owned shirts in the school color (orange is an unflattering color on Scandinavians for the most part).

I'm sick of them too, why on earth do we need all this bull. If they would stop and let kids be kids they wouldn't have to come up with some ####### to make kids like school for one day.

Haha here they decided to give them school shirts because parents refuse to buy them.

The kids here actually tend to like school, but this week's theme is rather mature for them.  Red on Monday to take a stand against drugs?  There are kids in her school that are in foster care because of drugs, I'm sure they don't need the reminder and the rest of the pipsqueaks aren't exactly shooting up heroin at recess.  I think it is probably a more appropriate topic for the older kids.
