Kick off 2018 with a new rant thread before we reach 200 pages in this one?

My final rant involves the $476 per night cost of a room at the Hard Rock resort in Punta Cana. Note, this is discounted severely from their normal price of $699 per night. Further note, RT airfare from New Mexico is only $444. Methinks we won't be joining the bride and groom in their chosen resort on their wedding week, especially since one can choose an alternate hotel for as little as $5 per night - not that you'd necessarily want to go quite that low in your selection.

Wow... I wonder if they did that on purpose to weed out some of the guests?

That's a bit a steep! The good thing is is that Punta Cana has BROAD hotel selection with really good prices. Definitely no need to stay at the same hotel they are staying.

To be fair to the bride, who is a good friend to la colombiana, she did provide the name of a travel agent through which she and her husband booked for their destination wedding. So p'raps this travel agent has an inside line to a severely severely discounted price. Not that it matters. As you say, there's lots of options. We're looking forward to the trip in August. As a couple, we generally do well in warm climates with beaches. Who cares about the wedding unless it seriously impedes beach time.

Ahhh... Ding, ding, ding! That would make so much sense!

I need to convince Mr. C to travel with Mini and hit a beach this summer.... We need it, badly. Mr. C and I traveled a lot before getting married but not much after... just like you and la colombiana (if I remember correctly), we did not have a honey moon.

Enjoy the white beaches!!

boy it's 26 degrees celsius here, 20 when it gets ''cool'' and people wear sweaters, hah. I'm used to having Caribbean Christmases, so I'm actually looking forward to a cool/cold one at some point.

we don't have internet still (using my phone's data as a hotspot, had to hire an unlimited data plan for a month) so I'm downloading tv shows, including some that I could watch on Netflix, to have around.

I'm ready to start harassing NVC until we get our case number and we can pay the fees, send the documents, etcetera.

We still have some family around and I'm getting tired. I'm a social person but I need cooling-down periods to recharge my batteries, we've had a bunch of people around since December 23d so I'm looking forward to everyone going back to their cities and work, so I can start my routine. My husband is staying with me for another week which is cool, we're going to make a small trip for our first anniversary, time does really fly, even when you're having a tough time, and I'm grateful for it.

I hope you guys are starting this year strong. big hug your way

The older child's braces are paid off finally.  Only like another year before we have to pay for the Mara thing.

😀😀. The joys of children.

Honestly, I'm not sure she needs the overbite correction.  Hers is as bad as mine and I more than survive.  I didn't even really notice I had one until recently.

Spare no expense in getting little Trophie great teeth!

That's my game plan. It's important to girls. Especially for self confidence. My girls will have beautiful teeth.

Now they are straight and I make sure she brushes them, unlike my parents, so she's got a pretty big headstart there.

You should seriously be able to sue your parents for adult dental work due to them not forcing you to have good dental hygiene as a child.  The Dane and I are both victims of this.  Even at 17, the dentist said my teeth were a lost cause.

In any case, I don't see what the big problem with overbites is.  Personally, I only notice other people's teeth when they look like they got chiclet veneers.

I want nice teeth. Maybe when I'm dead I can get them to put chiclets in to make my teeth look good.

I was on a lot of antibiotics as a child so my teeth were never nice and white. On top of that my mother was terrified of dentists so she refused to take us until I had teeth piggie backing on top of each other. It was recommended to get braces for no reason at all other then they didn't think I needed them. My father's insurance would have 100% covered it.

I wish I could blame the frequent antibiotics - my mother took me to the pediatrician all the time and they always prescribed something.   It was probably a good combo of well water, not brushing, and copious amounts of soda that even used to get put in my lunch box.  I'm glad that soda is prohibited on school grounds now.

That sure didn't help. Then you also have some ppl who just have inherited bad teeth.
