I was telling my mother tonight that I wished I had traded the damn thing in for a domestic SUV before it got in an accident last year.   I might still.  This is its second known issue repair in 6 months and of course, just out of warranty.

Ok back to this...

Even a Honda and Toyota is pretty easy to work on. And there's so many of them that a lotta people know them inside out.

At least you're gonna get 500 bucks back for the airbag (eventually)

But poor Dutch won't get his new chainsaw or shotgun...

Yeah, I suppose that is part of it.  Someone today on the local BST was desperately looking for a local mechanic who'd be willing to work on an Audi.  It is a common issue with Audis, Volvos, MBs, etc. We are lucky that we've got a Subaru dealer within an hour at least, unlike some of the luxury cars.  We have the mechanic in town just do stuff on the truck, sooo much more convenient.

Hahaha, yeah $500, maybe that'll go towards my new summer tires.  Since those didn't even last the 30k miles and less than 4 years I've had the car either.  :jest:

The Dane is outside replacing the truck battery.  They were sold out of the ones with good cold crank amps.  I wonder if he is a popsicle yet.

Yeah forget those Audi's and euro brands...goodluck finding a mechanic, they even require special tools that no one has!

Some cars have "sealed engine compartments", they don't want anyone touching the thing.

You know, tires have a "treadwear" rating on them, right? (As well as an expiration date).

The best places to get tires is at a wholesale club.

Costco, Sam's club, BJs, etc...

They always have fresh tires that are just manufactured, and their club warranty is great.

But pay attention to the wear rating.

A good set of truck tires should last 40-50k miles. Some even longer than that.

I hope Dutch got a DieHard battery...

The truck tires last forever, like at least 60k and onwards.  I'm trying to find summer Nokians for the Subaru.  My mother managed to get some for her Volvo, but they are harder to come by than the winter ones.   I've been meaning to look into Sam's Club (our only place like that), so maybe this will be a good reason to do it.

I think he got whatever the best CCA one was at the auto parts store that they had in stock.  Desperate times.  The truck starts now, which is good.

Yeah, where you live, you definitely want a higher quality battery. (Like a high end DieHard).

Be careful at Sam's club tho, some of their cheaper tires are made in China. (Like a Walmart fiddy dollar tire).

When I use to ride motorcycles, my great bikes only came with tires made in Japan, and made out of like 92% natural latex.

(You can't have a blow out on a bike). But I've never owned a bike long enough to need to change a tire.

And, as the treads wear down, what little treads there were, you actually get better traction on a dry road. And, I never rode in the rain.

Yeah my Yukon's first set was replaced at about 60k miles. They were Goodyears.

Man I hope Dutch didn't get an Autozone battery....what they call it? Duralast? They suck.

Nokians are made in Russia at the moment.  I think they are opening a US factory in the next few years.
