We got a Lionel O gauge last year for under the tree.  It is the New York Central Flyer.

I had always had HO-gauge growing up (my father is a train enthusiast).  I should say rather that my father, I, and the little Dane are all train enthusiasts.

I can relate, definitely.  It's getting increasingly difficult as an adult. I know I'm living here temporarily, but it drives me insane.

it's hard to break old habits and the perception of how we were, just like you said. I'm in my 30s and I feel like I'm still treated like a child sometimes,

or my mom demands-expects certain things from me, but no matter how much I do, it's just never enough for her. At one point she said ''she knew my dad and her couldn't rely on us because we are not taking care of them when they get older'' We have never said or implied anything like it, that dramatic assertion makes me not want to help her at all. She was never the present parent to begin with, she clearly didn't want kids and kept herself busy while my grandma raised us, but now is getting into the ''tortured mother that gave it all'' role, and it doesn't fit her.

I was thinking about what it was that triggered this phase in her and I think it might have been the realization that she basically missed out on all the parenting years and that my life was not turning out the way that she planned.  I felt kind of bad with her last visit because she was obviously insecure that she wasn't more domestic and involved and kept trying to convince me that she made meatballs from scratch when I was a kid.  She didn't.  She wouldn't event touch the raw meat this time...  I was telling my husband that I don't understand her need to compare or pretend that the situation was different than it was.  She was working a lot and she needed to in order to pay the bills.  There is nothing wrong in that.

yeah you dodged a bullet there! something that seems innocuous and friendly (like buying a house) becomes a total power move that they can hold against others. If it isn't in the form of control, it's just expecting things to happen, automatically and almost magically. Every time my mom tries to include me in her projects I cringe, because she expects a lot of work for little to no pay at all.

Please immigration, don't be mean. let me be with my husband and end this nightmare !

It is a really classic control move by wealthier parents.  She fixed this later on, but I'm still pissed about it - I owned a car outright and she somehow talked me into a buying a brand new car and using my trade-in value towards it.  She'd make the payments on the new car, but of course it would be 100% in her name.  Guess what happened when I wanted to move with my daughter to a different state back to a college that had my rare major and offered me a scholarship?  She refused to let me take the car or sell it and get my money back.  The school wasn't doable without the car and I couldn't manage the expenses of living on my own + a new car.   I eventually got it back, a few years ago, after I already had the money to buy another car in cash anyway.

Mil has her hip replacement yesterday, on her feet today, off to rehab tomorrow. They thought they could turf her back home for Christmas. Not. There isn't going to be anybody here.

I drove back up there today, have had the water turned on. The electricity was on when we got there so I've put the heat on. Going to be some cold nights coming up, and I don't want frozen pipes.

I rang the daughter last night. She's told me I am not able to go until she gets here December 30. Sorry. And unless she'd like to see her mother in rehab for the holidays, she can change her plans and come here instead of going to her husband's parents for the 13th year running.

Consequences. Sometimes they really bite.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Trying to find a tattoo artist that I want to do this piece is hard.    I want detail but good colour shading.  I know that a traditional Japanese or american style artist isn't going to do what I want.   I have a list of about 5 people... but I feel weird asking a bunch of people.

I've been juicing and making smoothies the last couple of days.  Well, not traditional smoothies - they are just frozen fruit, spinach, and water.  Mmmm delicious.

I had mistakenly thought that smoothies had to be made with some sort of dairy or dairy substitute, but nope.
