I've managed sort out my 'we can't cash your pension check for less than $55"  mess. They will direct deposit it into my son's account in Canada, and he will PayPal me the funds.  The Pension people were quite amazed at what the bank here is trying to do. There have been others, she says, so I would guess there will be more complaints.

I had to go downtown to the main branch to get the cashier's cheque to close on the house tomorrow. The DAR regent of MIL's local group or whatever the heck they are, works the front desk there, and I thought she was not herself today. Normally very chatty and friendly, but very short with us this afternoon. Apparently, she is angry with us and told me off. The MIL has been telling everyone we are  running out on her, and she has to go to VA because we are abandoning her and she can't manage on her own!  What a snake. Seriously.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

And we thought that you had a driven personality, D2 ma'am.

Valladolid in Ecu is on an extremely hilly road heading south to Peru, drive man.

It (V.) or another town along the way (ADD we man) has no gasoline available, gasless man.

One must drive Many (2x2x2x2x2+[2x2x2]) miles or so to fill up, then drive back, if we recall man.

This rather defeats the purpose of filling one's tank, use much of it simply to return home man.

Unless they get gas trucked in, siphon man.

there's a Valladolid in Yucatán as well, it's like Springfield, they're everywhere.

Arrived at Cozumel, it's cool here which I appreciate.

I'm buying a bicycle soon to move around, enjoying the ocean and happy that I'll see my husband in a week.

I love Christmas: being with my loved ones, cooking, eating. We're going to have a great time.

First dinner here at the beach club, then our own Christmas dinner the night after.

And I'm seeing the Backstreet Boys in Cancun the 29th, great way to end the year!

What are you guys planning to do?

What are you guys planning to do?

On New Years Eve we're ditching this little town of Santa Fe for the glamorous big lights of Albuquerque. Gonna stay over night at the brand new Hotel Chaco near old town. Have reservations at a very nice Italian restaurant. Later we'll enjoy the crowd and booze atop the hotel at a rooftop lounge. Definitely a change of pace for us. Hopefully the normal 10 degree difference in temperature btwn SF and ABQ will provide a pleasant evening - perhaps in the high 50's.

Having been separately notified by Mrs. T-B. and we, two City crews shut off the water twice, redundant man.

The amount of water isn't flood- or damage-level, thankfully man.

Our go-to plumber looked at it yesterday, see he man.

It's a broken pipe under the garage, diagnosis man.

He thinks that he can fix it from outside, resourceful he man.

He comes at Many p.m. today, timely man.

And his cost-estimate was only $Many, relief man.

Go aysheep when Mrs. T-B. redecorates the casa without warning/telling/consulting us. :bonk: man.

She did a nice job with the mirrors rescued from Mama T-B.'s casa, tasteful she man.

However, she removed the most important wall-clock in the casa, grrr man.

We complimented her on the mirrors and asked that the clock be restored, request we man.

She got offended that we didn't like her work, upset she man.

We could not get it across that all we wanted was the clock re-walled, communication failure man.

We spent another marathon session on chat with Apple Support, more than Many hours man.

Our e-mail woes are, they concluded, "unexpected behavior," duh man.

A senior rep will call us in an hour to set a phone-caucus with the engineers, just our luck man.

We will have to back up at least our e-mail folders, and probably more, via Time Machine, suspect we man.

We have no idea how many more hours this will take, losing Many hours on this man.

We intuit (cool new verb) that hoops will be through-jumped but for naught, pessimistic we man.

We were up at 0 dark early and got to the closing with time to spare. We had a list of things to do. Have the homeowner's insurance sorted, no one at the water department, but we did get to the power company, and it will be on tomorrow.

And then...the MIL rang. She was on the floor, she'd fallen, and she thought she broke her hip. Could we come home? We were, I reminded her, the best part of three hours away.  I told her to ring an ambulance, it didn't matter the house was locked up because there was a key outside which she did not remember having hidden. But yes, we will drop everything and head back. I reminded her to make sure the dog was in the house before they left. I asked her to call me, or have someone call me, as soon as she knew anything.

We've got home to find the dog shut up in our office, absolutely freaked out.  No way to get to her food or water, and frantic.  I've rung ER as no one called me, they have admitted her, and she's in surgery having a hip replacement. I am fairly confident she has not rung her daughter.

It's a week today until we shift house, and we are still going.  She's going to end up in rehab,  and I am not hanging about on that. Her daughter planned on coming here after Christmas at her in-laws; well perhaps her plans need to change. For a change.
