It's an HTC, probably had a 99 cent battery from China, among other parts.

What thuggy friend and what info? I help them to no ends, jog my memory.

Yesterday I guided one of them on how to  file a complaint report for lost property.

ah, I see.  No wonder you're definitely not looking forward to it! It's interesting that she takes a lot of time making decisions while expecting others to cater to her ASAP,  It seems like contradicting traits. Also 15k is insane!  hardwood floors are dreamy but at that price tag, I can see how it's just not a possibility.

New York is such a high energy city, that must have been quite the change. My mom has lived in Cozumel (the island where I grew up) for 30 years so she is used to it, but somehow continues to be very impatient and expects things to be fast and very efficient. I moved to Monterrey and then Mexico City, so every time I come back I feel that time stands still.

It wouldn't be that much in a more expensive house but compared to the total cost of our house it doesn't make that much sense.  Her floors I think are going to be more in the 8k range with labor.  Still pricey.

It is more of a general cultural thing, I think.  I often times think of my mother as like an honorary Jewish mother... when everyone around you is pushy and loud, that becomes the new normal and not rude.  When you move somewhere more quiet and slow, it becomes a problem.  She's actually a lot like my Jewish ex-mother-in-law, but when I told her that, she was deeply insulted.  There is nothing wrong with it, they are both really dominant, intelligent, and successful women.

yeah 8k is a lot still. I never realized how expensive renovations were, I had an idea but wow. I've never owned a house and I want one with my husband at some point, but everything is so expensive we might be able to afford a tiny, fixer-upper that's super far :P thank you Austin for being awesome, so everyone is moving there and prices are skyrocketing.

I agree on the cultural thing for sure. Sometimes it's a very thin line between being bossy/pushy and strong, dominant and successful. My mom is a tough, stoic, complex woman that at times I've struggled to connect with and fully understand, but I realized how much her tough love and strict persona has impacted my life in a positive way and not only a negative one. I'm mushy and sensitive, and she always pushes me to be stronger and independent, which has certainly paid off. She could've hugged me more and criticized me less, but hey, no one is perfect. She loves me and I love her.

I also understand her reaction when you told her that. No one wants to see their ''flaws'' reflected on another person, thus we dislike what we're afraid we've become, but you were focusing on the positive, which I'm sure wins over the ''negative''. I sometimes feel worried I am becoming my mom: impatient, bossy and dominant, but well balanced these traits can be virtues. I'm really proud of her.

Houses are super expensive after you purchase them.  I just went back and did a category search, we've spent 45k on household repairs, appliances, tools, and maintenance on a 75k house.  :o
