It does have it downside, we are finally getting curbside recycling within the next few months.  Driving recyclables seemed kind of wasteful.  If you live outside of the immediate city limits, there is no trash pickup and you are allowed to burn it.

 

It is great for older folks and snowbirds.  Many single people only put out a trash bag a week and you only need to pay when you actually use the service.  

 

One of the great things about living in a small town here is that everything is on the same bill and administered by the city, so they try and give you fair rates.  Well, we are one of the towns that doesn't have town provided cable tv, though.

Someone actually gave one of the local papers a copy of a maternity hospital bill from one of the small towns in the 1950s or 1960s.  It ended up working out to maybe $200 in today's dollars and included a 7 day stay!
