Hi everyone,

I've seen some contrasting anecdotal evidence on whether it's possible to certify your own translations of documentation in a foreign language. I'm a professional translator and so am perfectly, professionally qualified to certify translations in the way they ask for the application process if I was doing it for someone else. I haven't found any clear indication, though, whether I can certify the translations for my own petition.

Does this just depend on luck or the personal whims of the case examiner (or whatever they're called)? Or maybe vary by location/state?

I suppose I could find a translator friend/colleague to do it for me, but I would prefer to do it myself if possible.

Thanks!

I'm the foreign beneficiary and I translated and certified my own foreign civil documents, they were accepted just fine :) If you are fluent in both English and the foreign language that needs to be translated, you can translate the documents yourself and add a certification by translator on each translated document. Here's a sample of certification by translator:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.
