If you have to file at CSC, (and whether you file at CSC or VSC is based on your state of residence (I don't know them all; it's on the instructions for the form)) you're probably looking at about 15 months at the moment. USCIS just updated their processing dates, and CSC is currently processing July 19, while VSC is processing Oct 5 (or close to that).

You never know, sometimes CSC randomly speeds up, but just so you're prepared, that's what we're looking at as of right now.

Good luck!

Omg. That is crazy! Looks like by the time I get my permanent GC, I will be ready to apply for citizenship!  I wonder in case of traveling overseas or proof of residence for my employer , is there gonna be any problems showing the expired GC and the notice of extension ? Especially with travelling overseas and dealing with airport customs and seurity. Somerimes I feel like they have no clue. Should I worry ?

Thanks very much :)

You'll probably be eligible to apply for citizenship even before you get your 10 yr GC. (Right now that seems to be slowing down the process a bit, but by the time yours comes up that may not be true!)

I never had any difficulty with using the card/letter combo for international travel - there have been some mentions of it being a problem, but I suspect that there will be fewer problems given that the wait times are so long now that many more people are having to use their exp green card and letter for a significantly longer time.

As far as your employer, I'd opt to use my Social Security card and driver's license instead of showing them the green card. They aren't allowed to specify which documents you use, and that way you likely won't get asked to re-verify.

Let the process go on as usual but couple of things to have lined up now:

- make sure you have an unrestricted SS card

- make sure you have a current driver's license

Those are the only two things you need as proof of employment and your HR can't demand to see a green card.

If I-751 is not completed by November 15 2018, file N-400 as you're eligible (if still married to the same USC that sponsored you).

That's very good advice.

In case I filed for N-400 and during the process something happens like separation as our relationship fluctuates :) , will I still be eligible to get N-400 done or they will revoke it and lose my money ?

Those ROC and Naturalization things are overpriced! But they are a must i guess esp when travelling. Because as you said drivers license and SSN are enough for work. So skipping ROC, can we say won't affect my situation if I don't want to travel and just apply for N-400 directly next November 2018?  I want to save $680 :)

No, if the marriage breaks down you don't qualify for N-400 based on 3 yrs. You would have to wait until LPR for 5 years.

Budgeting for fees should be done from day 1. Put away $10-20 a week (don't buy Starbucks/whatever your go to thing is for pick me up) in a separate account (or envelope) and don't touch it until you're sending off your application.

You CANNOT skip ROC! That will make you deportable.

Like I said before, everyone should plan for (AOS if on K1) ROC and Naturalization by budgeting ahead of time and not complaining weeks before they're due to be sent off. Had 21 months to save up for that.

I got it :)

I can get the money easily by selling weeds. Not a problem :) I was only trying to find a way to override the long queue.  Very excited to be eligible for citizenship application next year - hopefully my wife sticks a round and tolerate me till then:)

Just curious how long does the N400 processing take on average ?

Thanks!

N400 processing largely depends on your local office. My sister filed March 3 this year and was a citizen September 19. There are people whose processing takes a year or longer.

Just a nonsensical question regarding documents of evidence I will send. Should I send one copy of our lets say car insurance card together for one cycle bill is enough ? Or all cycle bills for the whole period since we were together is important to send ?  In other words, one copy vs all copies of every month? Thanks

Depends... How long were you on the item together?  For instance for banking information, send all or at least quarterly statements. Yearly or bi-yearly insurance,  quarterly phone statements...

Well it depends. Bank account since we got married and we settled the option of paperless. But for car insurance its only since last August.

I mean sending just one copy of everything does not mean "not enough evidence" right ?  I just wanna cover up the basics.

Also should I send a marriage certificate again or not ? Old marriage pics or not ? I believe they have already copies of these when I submitted them the first time.

What comes in my mind right now is:

1- the application form

2- copies of documnets together like insurance, phone bill, bank account statement

 3- our pics together

4- our newly born daughter birth certificate and pics of her with us

That's all in my mind. Am I missing anything else ? Please help edit if I am missing anything else. I am supposed to send my papers in few days.  Thanks a lot :)

Yes, bank accounts (and any other accounts) since you were married. USCIS wants to see co-mingling since marriage as much as possible. Doesn't hurt to send a copy of the marriage certificate. No marriage pics needed, but send some pics since marriage.

Don't bother with the marriage certificate. They know you're married.

Bank statements you can generally dl online if it's paperless.  Make sure to send all the pages so they can see regular usage.

I will attach "quarter" bank statement since we got married without showing the actual balance. Is that okay ?

Also our tax paper jointly filed for 2 years is to be added up to the list.
