Hi ,
I plan on applying to the DV-2019 but I'm confused as to how I should write my name

For example: (This is not my real personal data)
name in a passport

James D. (M.R.) Smith

first name               : James
father name           :  D.              (the problem is this name is Abbreviation and contains some characters (Dot) ).
grandfather name :  (M.R.) (the problem is this name is Abbreviation and contains some characters (Dot , brackets)).
family name            : Smith

So, I'm not sure should I skip writing middle name or how to fill the middle name in the  DV-2019 ?

I am not sure what is what in your name, single out the first and last name and then figure out which part is the middle name

i dont know what you father and grand father's names have to do with your full name here.

This is clearly someone from a place where the tradition is to use father and grandfather names as part of the name. People tend to use those as middle names for Dv entries. However I’ve never seen it in the form of an initial only in the passport.  The rules are clear that edv should be same as passport but that seems wrong here so I really don’t know what to suggest. I know uscis run a twitter account that they seem quite responsive on so it may be worth asking the question there?

It depends on what you have in your foreign or international passport that you travel with... if it lists all the father's, grandfather's names, then you write them all in the place where the middle name is. Or you just write NMN (no middle name ) as your fathers name is not your middle name I suppose but then again I am not sure if it is ok because the name on your green card should usually be identical to the name in your travel document.

First suggestion: write NMN and list all other names you used on other lines where it asks "if you ever used other names"

second suggestion: write your grand and father's name instead of a middle name.

Hello everyone! I am applying to the DV lottery for 2018 and I have a question about filling up the online form.

I have a surname and 2 given names on my Italian passport (es. Maria Anna as given name, Rossi as surname). I was wondering: should I write my 2 given names under the "first name" section, or write one in the "first name" section and the other in the "middle name" section?

It's my first time applying and this is unclear to me.

Thanksss

Is it clearly differentiated on another document like your birth certificate? If so, follow that.  If not, you can choose which you prefer. Bear in mind that if you get selected, whatever your choice is becomes your official name in the US. In your case, if people normally refer to you by both names I’d put both under first, otherwise Anna as middle.

If there are two given names in the passport you will use for your immigration process, and if one of the two names is not the middle name then treat them both as the first names, the way it is. Put those two first names where it asks to list your first name. In the middle name section put N/A or NMN.
