I'm a Canadian Citizen I just got engaged a few weeks ago to an American CItizen and we have started to plan our wedding for September 2007. I'm not planning on living in the US till we get back from our honeymoon therefore I am thinking that I dont need a k-1 fiance visa. I've been reading through all the information on the guides & FAQ on this website and its helpful but parts of it are really confusing.

We want to have our ceremony with our friends & family in Canada and I've heard that its easier to get legal marriage documents from the US before September and then apply for the K-3 spousal visa. We want to go outside of the US for our honeymoon though, and as far as I've read, we can do this with the K-3 visa, is this right? Should we wait to apply for the the K-3 till after we get back from our honeymoon or does it matter when we apply for it?

Has anyone gone through a senario like this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

well, you can't even start the petitioning process for a K3 until after you're married, so whether you do it before or after your honeymoon is semantics really.

You have to have your marriage certificate to include with the petitions, and depending where in Canada you're getting married, that may take you a week or 6 months. Plan on living apart for at least a year after your wedding day anyway.

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
