Oh, goodness. I didn’t know that. So if I check the guideline I will only look at household of 3?

Question: when I filed, I put household of 4 ( because I thought it’s counting whoever lives together ), could it be that I made a mistake that I should have put household of 1 ( for me) and checked the poverty guideline wrong as well?

For your household it would be 4...

But with the joint sponsor you are counted as part of THEIR household. They need to show they can support themselves AND you. Whereas your husband needs to show he can support HIS household and the immigrant if there is no joint sponsor.

Your joint sponsor doesn't need to support the rest of your household since they aren't immigrants.

For them to sponsor you yes - 125% for household of 3.

Oh, I think I get it now. But why wouldn’t it let me put 4 on that number 8 on the sponsor’s household size? It kept putting 1? So, if I get a joint sponsor, they should put 3 on the household size and since my husband is still filling out i-864, we should still put 4 on the household? But then, when we get a joint sposor, are we gonna look on the poverty guidelines as household of 3 only?

1.Make sure you are filling out the form in the program Adobe Reader (not in the web browser) - I don't know what '8' is, don't have the form in front of me but make sure that no one is counted twice.

2. Yes the put 3

3. Yes your husband puts 4

Also make sure to indicate "main sponsor" for him and "joint sponsor" for your friends.

4. I already answered, yes 125% for household of 3 in the guidelines.

Huh. So basically if I get a joint sponsor my husband’s income doesn’t do anything at all. Can I have more than one joint sponsor or only one?

There would be no point in more than one since you can't combine incomes across joint sponsors. Note that this is different than combining income with a household member, if eligible, on an I-864A...it's still one joint sponsor in that case.

I have one-two persons to ask to be a joint sponsor ( husband and wife ). If I do end up asking them, the household size is gonna be mine and theirs, is that correct? So if I have 4 and they have 2, it will be for household of 6 now? And whatever income needed on houselhold of 6?

Nope. It's their household size + the intending immigrant(s). So barring other dependents they have, it would be 3 for them. One on them could be the joint sponsor and complete the I-864. The other would fill out an I-864A to add their income/assets to their spouse's I-864.

Hello again. I am curious. If we don’t find any joint sponsor, what other option do we have? Nothing? I mean, if I don’t give my response back to UsCIS within the deadline, it will result in denial. If that happens, am I not gonna be able to file again? Can we like, buy some time, like submit my response within the deadline but not sure if the income and assets meet the guideline, and hope that they give us an RFIE again or that never happens? I asked because we are thinking that if we get some more time we can save more, since on our case we just started receiving my husband’s income and we literally need more time to save. Or this doesn’t make any sense, that I desperately need to just get a joint sponsor because USCIS will deny my case and I will never ever be able to file again?

If you don't send the response in time you will get denied yes

If you send a response and it's not enough they sometimes send another RFE and they sometimes don't - there is no way of knowing, they aren't required to send you another and so again you would risk denial.

If you are denied, the moment you get the denial you will be out of status - you can then file again as soon as possible to avoid being put in to removal proceedings. This is the risk after a denial. As soon as your new application is received you will again be in another period of authorized stay.

I would be forward at this point, just keep calling since it's time sensitive - also think about if there is anyone else that you haven't considered.

I tried to call them again yesterday and no answer. I got a few people that I can ask but these people I got lesser chance since they got little kids themselves and the income might not be enough as well. Is it illegal to put an ad on a paper asking for a joint sponsor? LOL what am I even asking? Okay, I’ll try harder to call the first choice, thanks again!
