All that paperwork goes with you to the interview.  Maybe your lawyer wants to see it first but I dont know why he would.  My future asawa has her and her son's NBI, police certs from Ireland and Korea, her CENOMAR, and Birth Certificates for her and her kids.  I sent my tax returns and pay stubs (emailed PDF that she can print).  There is no need for a lawyer back here to look through those things that may or may not be looked at during the interview.  These are just my thoughts.  Have everything ready to go and hopefully they won't look at any of it!

No you are right. Once it gets past the NVC phase of the process then there is really no need for a lawyer at all if you can follow a simple checklist. I have always said that in regards to immigration and the embassy interview " It is better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it".

Hi everyone ,

I just want to consult with anyone here about the processing times of NVC. Currently, we already received our MNL# back on September 27, 2017. We also have instructions to make the payment. However, our lawyer is asking for a few things from my husband's sister who is the co-sponsor. We already have everything but an original letter from her employer which is taking quite some time to be sent. My husband and I are not agreeing over when to pay for the visa. Based on what I have read so far, paying for the visa is the first step before sending the documents to NVC

My questions are:

1. Can we go ahead and pay the visa fees while gathering the requirements?

2. How soon will NVC forward the documents to the USEM once they have received it?

3. How soon can I schedule an interview with the USEM?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help :)

I'm confused.... Are you a K1 or CR1? Your topic states CR1 timeline but your getting advice for a K1. Hope that's what you're after a K1. If not all bets are off and you will have an entirely different process for a CR1.

Hi! Im applying for a CR1. I actually just referred to NVC's website and although I have to pay already, it does state that our lawyer needs to send them the required documents and then it will be forwarded to USEM. Would you have any knowledge in what the next steps are after paying?

Thank you for raising this point as well. :)

Schedule the interview and pay the fee as soon as you get the MNL#.  Let the lawyer and your husband's sister know when the interview is scheduled for.  Force them to get the paperwork in order.  This is your life.  Dont spend too much time waiting on other people!

NVC should forward the paperwork within 7 to 10 days unless they have an issue.

They are IR/CR-1  process is different... they do NOT schedule their interview, they have to wait for NVC processing to be completed, then the fee is paid per NVC instructions.

You are burning daylight as we speak right now.

1. Yes, you can go ahead and pay the embassy fee in the Philippines. They don't wait for you to pay the fee before they send it to the embassy, they forward that to the embassy within 10 days on average.

3. When you go and pay the embassy fee then you can go ahead and schedule the interview, you also need to do medical as well.

Get your butt in gear because your burning daylight.

Not K-1 .. IR/CR-1    they can't do anything yet.

You need to be patient and follow NVC instructions.   Being you have a lawyer in this mix you will have to wait for him also.    You don't pay anything until NVC instructs you to do so.

From what it sounded like they got the CR1 fee and the Embassy interview fee mixed up.  Because CR1 visa holders have to pay the visa fee before they can receive the official green card.

Whoa ... visa fee is paid before the interview (NVC will instruct them on this),   then after they have their visa they must paid the ELIS fee to USCIS before receiving the green card.

Thank you Hank. We actually got the invoices already. What my husband and I couldn't agree on was when to pay the NVC as he is still waiting on a few documents. I say we pay it already, he thinks we should complete the documents our lawyer listed first. What would be the best thing to do?

If you have the invoices there is no reason to delay paying, not necessary to have all the documents requested by NVC to pay the fees.  Won't speed anything up paying now either, as you are still waiting for documents.  ;)

You and your hubby will have to make that decision.       Not sure how long it takes for payment to be recorded, with NVC I am betting payment is recorded instantly, unlike here in the Phils.

I think Hank has this one. He is giving you the straight skinny on what to do and when. He is better than a lawyer.... trust me when I say that.  ;)

Hey Hank!

Got a few questions regarding new developments in our case. The NVC got in touch with us last Dec 20 to ask for a certified true copy of our marriage certificate which our lawyer sent the Friday before Christmas. How long do you think it will take for them to review it and get back

to us again?

Thanks!

Depends on how the lawyer sent the PSA marriage certificate... snail mail or fax.

Just be patient ... that is the rule with this process.   You are in the lawyers hands.
